Introduction

Failures have been observed on the Cisco 7500 Series RSP processor while attempting to communicate with a slave router in a dual RSP configuration (HSA feature). When using Cisco IOS 11.3(1) or 11.3(1)T, the Cisco7500 HSA feature may cause a router to reload when a configuration is autosyncing.

When an RSP Slave reset occurs, the Slave IPC queue is not reset properly. Symptoms of this issue include IPC Error messages when a user tries to:

• autosync Master and Slave configurations

• issue Flash commands

• issue the show stack command

• issue any other command that uses the IPC system to communicate between the Master and Slave RSP in a dual RSP system

RSP Slave resets can occur whenever a cbus complex occurs:

Background

Cisco IOS 11.3(1) RSP series orders received at Cisco manufacturing after January 22, 1998 may be shipped with Cisco IOS 11.2(10a)P1. This will continue until a fix for CSCdj46324 is implemented in maintenance release 11.3(2).

Workaround

None. Recommend using Cisco IOS 11.2(10a)P1 until the issue is resolved.

Solution

CSCdj46324 will be implemented in Cisco IOS 11.3(2) and 11.3(2)T.
