Product Bulletin, No. 1103
End of Life for Cisco Secure IDS
and StorageTek BorderGuard
NetSentry InterfaceIntroduction
This product bulletin covers the issues associated with the end of life for the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and StorageTek BorderGuard family of products with the NetSentry interface. The 2.2.1 release family is the last Cisco Secure IDS software with guaranteed support for the StorageTek products. Signature updates for version 2.2.1 will be released through November 2000 to provide customers the opportunity to migrate to the newest sensors, which don't require the StorageTek devices. Although continued signature releases will be provided for version 2.2.1, version 2.5 will be installed on appliances beginning mid-summer 2000, which does not support the StorageTek devices. The effective dates are provided in Table 1 below.

Rationale
This end-of-life action is necessary because:•
Prior to acquisition by Cisco, StorageTek was a WheelGroup partner and resold the NetRanger® product. After acquisition, StorageTek and Cisco mutually agreed to dissolve the relationship. As a result of the dissolution agreement, Cisco committed to carrying support for StorageTek devices until July 31, 2000. All NetRanger customers as of January 1999 were informed of this decision in a letter signed by the Cisco vice president and general manager for service, sales and marketing, and the NetRanger engineering director.
•
There is insufficient customer demand for this functionality for Cisco to commit the resources necessary to continue supporting the StorageTek devices.
Support
Customers with maintenance support contracts are entitled to 24-hour phone support through the Technical Assistance Center. Cisco is committed to supporting the StorageTek BorderGuard and NetSentry support in the 2.2.1.x software versions until March 1, 2003 (three years after this end-of-life announcement).
