End of Life for Cisco
IDS 2.2.x Sensor Software

Introduction

Software release 2.2.x for the Cisco IDS Appliance Sensor has reached its End of Life (EOL) milestone. This software release is being removed from CCO, effective March 18th, 2002.

This EOL serves several purposes:

1. Simplifies the task of selecting software for customers and account managers by reducing the number of releases concurrently available.

2. Encourages customers to operate their IDS sensors with more current software releases.

3. Improves software support by reducing the number of versions currently available.

4. Allows customers to have available the latest signature updates available for their IDS sensor.

It is recommended that all customers currently running Cisco IDS Release 2.2.x upgrade their software to version 3.0.

Cisco IDS 2.2.x Sensor Software Upgrade

The software upgrade from the 2.2.x sensor to the 3.0 sensor requires a CD-ROM which can be requested for free for customers with sensor SMARTnet maintenance contracts at:

The 3.0 software will only run on Cisco manufactured sensors. Customers running legacy WheelGroup appliances or software-only need to refer to the Product Bulletin at:

Note: The minimum version of the Management Console that will be required to support the 3.0 Sensor CSPM 2.3.2i or UNIX Director 2.2.3.

Support

Cisco will continue to provide support for this release until March 18th, 2002, through the SMARTnet service program. After this date, technical assistance might require an upgrade to a later release. Customers with SMARTnet service contracts are entitled to 24-hour phone support through the TAC and advance replacement of hardware. Cisco is committed to supporting this release for a period of three years after the End-of-Life announcement.
