Cisco IDS 2.5 Sensor Software Upgrade
Product Bulletin No. 2004
End-of-Life for Cisco IDS 2.5 Sensor Software
Software release 2.5 for the Cisco IDS Appliance Sensor has reached its End-of-Life (EOL) milestone. This software release is being removed from Cisco.com, effective February 28, 2003.
This EOL serves several purposes:
•
Simplifies the task of selecting software for customers and account managers by reducing the number of releases concurrently available
•
Encourages customers to operate their intrusion detection system (IDS) sensors with more current software releases
•
Improves software support by reducing the number of versions currently available
•
Allows customers to access the latest available signature updates for their IDS sensor
Cisco recommends that all customers currently running Cisco IDS Release 2.5 upgrade their software to version 3.1.

The upgrade from the 2.5 sensor to the 3.1 sensor software requires a CD-ROM, which can be requested at no charge for customers with sensor SMARTnet™ maintenance contracts at:
http://www.cisco.com/public/ordsum.html
The 3.1 software will only operate on Cisco manufactured sensors. Customers running existing WheelGroup appliances or software only need to refer to the product bulletin at:

Note:
The minimum version of the Management Console that will be required to support the 3.1 sensor is CSPM 2.3.2i, UNIX Director 2.2.3, or VMS 2.1.
The latest versions of the CSPM and the UNIX Director are available for download at:
http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cspm (CSPM)
http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ids221-dir-update (Unix Director)
Information on VMS 2.1, which contains the Management Center for IDS sensors and the Monitoring Center for Security, is available at:
http://www.cisco.com/go/vms (VMS 2.1)
VMS is the recommended management solution for customers, because it also supports future sensor updates.
