Overview
The Cisco 7100 Series VPN Router provides best-in-class virtual private network (VPN) services by combining the strength of Cisco 7000 Series features with Cisco IOS® Software network services. To better address requirements specific to the VPN market, the Cisco 7100 Series WAN CPE router models will enter end-of-sale (EOS) status November 30, 2001. Cisco 7100 Series VPN Router bundles for behind-edge Fast Ethernet-to-Fast Ethernet connectivity are not affected by this announcement.
Due to specific theater requirements, the Cisco 7100 Series VPN platforms were augmented with bundles addressing the low-cost, high-performance WAN customer premises equipment (CPE) market. The recent addition of Cisco 7200-based WAN CPE bundles (Cisco 7204 VXR/CPE, see http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/rt/7200/) for service provider CPE and enterprise WAN edge environments provide customers a new price/performance combination that is highly competitive in the WAN CPE market. Furthermore, the Cisco 7200 WAN CPE bundles provide additional expansion capabilities relative to the Cisco 7100, such as multiple port adapter (PA) slots, modular processor, and I/O subsystem.

Support
"End of Sale" refers to the time when specific products are no longer available for new purchases. Cisco will continue to support the Cisco 7100 Series WAN CPE routers through our SMARTnet™ and comprehensive maintenance programs. Customers with these service contracts are entitled to free software updates, 24-hour phone support through the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), and advance replaced hardware for repairs. Comprehensive maintenance customers also receive onsite service. Customers who do not have a maintenance contract can purchase software updates and hardware repair services from Cisco to meet specific requirements rather than full service coverage. Cisco is committed to providing software support for a minimum of three (3) years and providing hardware support for a period of five (5) years after the EOS date.
