End of Sale and Support for
WAN Interfaces on
Cisco VPN 3000 Series ConcentratorIntroduction
Cisco Systems announces the end of sale of the following Cisco VPN 3000 WAN Interface products:
•
Cisco VPN 3005 Concentrators with T1 and E1 Modules
•
All T1 and E1 WAN modules for VPN 3000 Concentrator Series products
Effective October 8, 2001 the Cisco VPN 3000 Series will no longer support WAN interfaces on any products in the series.
Note: This announcement does not affect standard, currently shipping Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrators and related products without T1 and E1 modules.
Rationale
The Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator is designed for behind-the-edge virtual private networking (VPN) services. As such, virtually all systems shipped today are in a LAN-to-LAN or remote access configuration through WAN-enabled routers. While the WAN modules provided basic functionality, they were not designed for full-featured WAN services and as such are missing a number of features required to provide full WAN support. Furthermore, due to the feature richness of Cisco IOS-based WAN and the lack of these features on the CVPN3000, demand for these modules has been very low. As a result of these conditions, we have decided to streamline the product line for behind-the-edge applications by eliminating the WAN modules for the VPN 3000 Concentrators. The Cisco router family best serves the WAN service requirements for Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrators.

Field Remediation Efforts
Customers who are successfully using the product in the field can choose one of the following solutions:
1.
For customers with the WAN Module:
a. Customer provided with a comparable router to replace the WAN module upon return of the WAN module (not the entire concentrator)
or
b. Unit purchased back from customer at purchased price
2.
For customers with a Cisco VPN 3005 Concentrator with integral WAN:
a. Customer provided with a replacement Cisco VPN 3005 and a Cisco 1700 Series Router with Dual T1 or E1 and a single Fast Ethernet port upon return of the existing Cisco VPN 3005 Concentrator with integral WAN
or
b. Unit purchased back from customer at purchased price
Remediation will be handled out of the Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator office. Please contact Jay Bazzinotti (jaybazz@cisco.com) or Kathy Leombruno (kleombru@cisco.com) for assistance.
If neither solution above meets specific site requirements, please contact your local Cisco sales engineer for an appropriate design and specification of the necessary equipment needed to remediate the topology. Please note that program authorizes only equipment exchange necessary to meet existing capabilities.
