Product Substitution
The recommended replacement product for the PIX 506 is the PIX 506E. This platform offers enhanced performance, a quieter fan and a new power supply. The PIX 506E uses a high-performance 300-MHz Intel Celeron processor, compared to the 200-MHz Intel Pentium MMX processor of the PIX 506-providing up to 70 percent improvement in VPN throughput. In addition, the PIX 506E uses a similar desktop chassis and includes two auto-sensing (full/half duplex) 10BaseT ports. New versions of all current PIX OS release trains (5.2, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.1) support this new enhanced platform, allowing customers to easily transition to the PIX 506E.
