End-of-Sale Announcement for
Cisco Secure PIXTM Firewall 520
Introduction
With the introduction of the latest in high-speed firewall platforms, such as the Cisco Secure PIX™ Firewall 525 and 535, Cisco Systems announces the end of sale of the PIX 520 platform.
Affected Part Numbers
Product Substitution
The recommended upgrade path for the PIX 520 is the PIX 525. This platform offers greater performance at a comparable price point. The PIX 525 uses a high-performance 600 MHz Intel Pentium III processor, compared with the 350 MHz Intel Pentium processor of the PIX 520—providing up to 30 percent improvement in processing CPU-intensive traffic. In addition, the PIX 525 sports a low-profile 2-rack unit (RU) design with easy service chassis and additional caching and SDRAM memory capacity. PIX 525 systems support all interfaces that are supported on the Cisco Secure PIX Firewall 520.
In addition, the recently announced Cisco Secure PIX Firewall 535 is an excellent choice for environments that need the most firewall performance. The PIX 535 integrates stateful firewall and IP Security (IPsec) virtual private network (VPN) functionality with Gigabit Ethernet throughput.
