Q. I have a Compatible Systems multiprotocol WAN router connected via PPP to a Wellfleet ASN router. The router picks up all the networks and zones from the ASN, but the ASN does not get them from the router. Why?
A. When you configure the router's WAN port for AppleTalk, it is configured as a non-extended network (single net number and one zone name). By default the Wellfleet ASN router's AppleTalk WAN is configured as an extended network and needs a network range defined. In order to work with router, the Wellfleet must be set to Phase 1.
Q. I want to set up one of the serial ports on my Compatible Systems multiprotocol WAN router for single user dial-in to replace my personal ARA server. I need IP and AppleTalk access over this port. What Mac client do you recommend for both AppleTalk and IP?
A. We have used MacPPP, InterCon's InterPPP, and Pacer's PacerPPP. Each can connect to IP and AppleTalk services.
Q. Have you heard anything about the new version of ARA?
A. "It (ARA 3.0) supports both the AppleTalk network system and TCP/IP protocols over a single PPP dial-up connection." --- From the Apple Web Site
It is recommended that you visit the Apple
web site for more specific information and updates.
Q. Will ARA 3.0 be able to dial-in to the serial ports on your routers?
A. We have done some preliminary testing and found that IP does work, but AppleTalk has a problem in the ATCP negotiation of PPP. Apple has acknowledged the problem but does not yet have a fix.
It is recommended that you visit the Apple
web site for more specific information and updates.
Q. Is Apple Internet Router, for LAN routing and AppleTalk Phase 2 support, compatible with Compatible Systems routers?
A. Yes
