Introduction

This product bulletin describes the new features introduced in Cisco IOS® software release 12.1(1)XB. This bulletin should be
used in conjunction with "Product Bulletin #1064 Cisco IOS Software Release Process."

New Features

12.1(1)XB is an early deployment (ED) release. This release delivers support for Cisco 827 and Cisco 827-4V platforms.
Now customers can use Cisco 800 series routers to access asynchronous digital subscriber line (ADSL) networks with support
for business-class functionality such as:

Differentiated quality of service

Toll-quality voice

Business-class security

Cisco IOS reliability

The features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into the 12.1(3)T release. Therefore, maintenance
for these features should be obtained from the 12.1T release. For more information about the Cisco IOS software release process, please see "Product Bulletin #1064."

Detailed Information

The Cisco IOS software Release 12.1(1)XB delivers support for the Cisco 827 and Cisco 827-4V platform models:
The Cisco 827 platforms provide a hardware platform that delivers integrated ADSL access to small business and teleworkers.
The Cisco 827-4V model delivers additional support for up to four FXS voice ports using voice over IP as transport and H.323 v1 and v2 as signaling. The encapsulations supported in this release are PPP over ATM (RFC 2364-PPP over AAL5) and
multiprotocol over ATM (RFC 1483 Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM Adaptation Layer 5).
Using PPP encapsulation 12.1(1) XB on the Cisco 827 routers supports dynamic address negotiation using IPCP. If using the
RFC 1483 encapsulation, AAL5snap supports DHCP client for automatic assignment of IP address and netmask to the
router's Bridged Virtual Interface.
