Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(3)XG

Introduction

This product bulletin describes the new features introduced in Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1(3)XG.

Important Update

For the fix to CSCds52865 the user needs to upgrade to 121.1(3)XG1 for c827. The user must configure "dsl operating-mode ansi-dmt" under ATM0 interface so that the router may interoperate with the DMT card of the Cisco DSLAM.

New Features

12.1(3)XG is an early deployment (ED) release that is targeted for the world wide market.
The new features for the 820 series included in this release are:

Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE)

Value-added feature sets delivering:

IP Sec VPN with DES 56 and 3DES Encryption

Stateful firewall through Cisco Secure integrated software

The features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into the 12.2(1)T release. Therefore, maintenance for these features should be obtained from the 12.2T release.

Detailed Information

For more detailed information about the platforms and features of 12.1(3)XG, reference the following document:

Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 12.1(3) XG can be found at the following URL:

Default Cisco IOS Feature Sets

In this release the equivalent functionality of the 12(1)1XB IP Voice Plus, is available in the IP Voice feature set. There is no IP voice Plus image in this release.

If no software is specified when ordering the platform, the Cisco 827 will ship with the IP feature set, the Cisco 827-4V will ship with the IP Voice feature set.

Memory

The Cisco 820 series platforms use an architecture that utilizes onboard Flash memory, not only to store Cisco IOS images but also to store ROMMON, and non-volatile memory to store the configurations. This memory, not available for storing Cisco IOS images in the flash file system, was previously counted when Flash requirements were documented in the product collateral, however,
we will no longer include this in our memory calculations. As a result, images will claim to need 8 MB of Flash instead of the
12 MB previously quoted. The 8 MB is what is reported by IOS as being available in the Flash file system of the default platform configurations.

Life Span

12.1(3)XG will be sold until Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(1)T is released.

Support

Cisco IOS software 12.1(3)XG is supported by the Cisco Systems Product Support Policy found at the following URL:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/437/27.html

Supported Hardware Platforms

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(3)XG as described in this bulletin supports the Cisco 820 series routers.
