Product Bulletin No. 1546
End of Sales: SA-COMP/4
Introduction
Cisco Systems is announcing the end of sale (EOS) for the SA-COMP/4, a compression service adapter, for use on the Cisco 7200 and Cisco 7500 Series routers. Due to an end of life component from one of our major suppliers, Cisco is unable to continue to offer this product. This only affects the SA-COMP/4 and does not affect any other service adapters and port adapters on the Cisco 7200 and Cisco 7500 Series routers. The SA-COMP/4 will be orderable until October 31, 2001 or while supplies last.Table 1 Products Reaching End of Sale
L2 Substitute Solutions
Customers requiring a compression solution may choose to run the software compression feature in IOS. Software compression may be operated on the Cisco 7200 Series routers or the Cisco 7500 Series routers with the use of either the Versatile Interface Processor (VIP) or Route Switch Processor (RSP). For highest performance in software, we recommend the latest VIP4-80 and RSP8.Customers requiring a hardware based compression solution may choose the Cisco 3660 with the AIM-COMPR4. This solution provides up to 16Mbps compression rate. For more information visit

Support Programs
End of sale refers to the time when certain products are no longer available for new purchases. It does not apply to the service and support programs for those products. Cisco will continue to support the SA-COMP/4 after EOS through the SMARTnet™ and Comprehensive Maintenance programs. Customers with either of these service contracts are entitled to free software updates, 24-hour phone support through the Technical Assistance Center, and advance replaced hardware for repairs. Comprehensive Maintenance customers also receive on site service. Customers who do not have a maintenance contract can purchase software updates and hardware repair services from Cisco to meet specific requirements rather than full-service coverage. Cisco is committed to providing software support for a minimum of three years and providing hardware support for a period of five years after the EOS date. Appendix A has a complete list of various dates associated with the end-of-life process.Appendix A: End-of-Life Schedule
