End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement
for the Cisco 7400 VPN BundleCisco Systems® announces the end of life of the Cisco® 7400 VPN Bundle. The last day to order the Cisco 7400 VPN bundle is November 30, 2003. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco 7400 VPN bundle. This notice does not affect the Cisco 7400 Series router that will continue to be available. Furthermore, Cisco VPN Acceleration Module (VAM) will continue to be supported as a spare on the Cisco 7400 Series.
As virtual private networks (VPNs) attain mainstream status for WAN connectivity, the demands imposed on network security devices for high performance, feature richness, and investment protection have increased dramatically. The Cisco 7200 Series provides an extensible platform with modular processor and I/O subsystems that allows for simple upgrades in VPN performance and system scalability as demands change. Additional expansion capabilities such as increased density of LAN/WAN interfaces, higher VPN tunnel scalability by supporting larger system memory and stateful failover for VPNs, make the Cisco 7200 Series an excellent choice for high-throughput VPN systems. With these benefits, the Cisco 7200 Series with hardware-based VPN acceleration service adapter is replacing the Cisco 7400 VPN Bundle for headend VPN applications.
The above-mentioned milestones only apply to Cisco 7400 VPN bundle. They do not affect the Cisco 7400 Series router and associated product line. Furthermore, this action does not affect the services contract because it applies to the Cisco 7400 router and not the end-of-sale bundle part number.
Table 2 lists Cisco 7400 VPN Bundle with recommended Cisco 7200 Series Router migration option.
