End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco PA-A2 Line of Circuit Emulation Port Adapters for the Cisco 7200 Series Router

Cisco Systems^® announces the end of life of the PA-A2 line of Cisco^® 7000 Series Circuit Emulation Services (CES) port adapters for the Cisco 7200 Series Router. The last day to order the Cisco PA-A2 line is December 1, 2004. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until December 1, 2009. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco PA-A2 line of port adapters.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco PA-A6 line of enhanced ATM port adapters. The PA-A6 port adapters are single slot port as compared to the dual wide PA-A2s which take up two slots of the Cisco 7200. The PA-A6 supports 8000 virtual circuits (VCs) per line card as opposed to the PA-A2, which supported 2000 VCs. The PA-A6 line also supports various features not supported on the PA-A2 including VoATM w/VoIP over ATM Adaption Layer 2 (AA), VoIP over ATM, Advanced Traffic Shaping per VC, Dynamic Bandwidth Selection, Unspecified Bit Rate +(UBR+), California Roll Lite, Autosense, and Single Cell Packed Relay. End-of-sale date	The last date to order the product through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms. The product is no longer for sale after this date.	December 1, 2004
Last shipment date	The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead-time.	March 1, 2005
End of software maintenance releases date	The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.	December 1, 2005
End of routine failure analysis date	The last-possible date a routine failure analysis may be performed to determine the cause of product failure or defect.	December 1, 2005
End of new service attachment date	For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.	June 15, 2005
End of service contract renewal date	The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.	December 1, 2008
Last date of support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	December 1, 2009

Product Migration Options

The recommended replacement for the Cisco PA-A2 line of port adapters for noncircuit emulation ATM functionality is the PA-A6 line of port adapters:

There is no migration path within the Cisco 7000 Series port adapters to support circuit emulation over ATM. The Cisco 2600 and 3700 Series support circuit emulation over IP. For more information, go to:
