Questions and Answers
Q.
What Cisco IOS® software do I need to support the RSP7000?
A.
The RSP7000 will be available in the following Cisco IOS release trains:
Note:
A Cisco IOS software upgrade is required if you are running software ranges of 11.0(1) and 11.0 (5) on your RP=. The RSP7000 supports Cisco IOS 11.0(6) and above (Table 2).

Q.
Do I gain an additional slot in my 7000 or 7010?
A.
No. The RSP7000 upgrade is actually a kit. Two major assemblies are included in the kit. One major assembly is the RSP7000 itself, which occupies the original SP slot. The other major assembly is the RSP7000/CI, which occupies the original RP slot. The RSP7000/CI is the "chassis interface" that provides the chassis ID, serial number, environmental monitoring, and MAC addresses.
Q.
Can the flash card on the RP be reused in the RSP7000?
A.
Yes. It is possible to take the RP PCMCIA flash card and reuse it in the RSP and RSP7000. However, the flash card must be reformatted before it can be reused. Instructions on reformatting appear in the hardware installation documents.
Q.
Can the SIMMs in the RP be reused and installed in the RSP or RSP7000?
A.
No. The SIMMs between the RP and the RSP are different and should not be reused to function on any other system.
