Cisco 2500 Series Routers Support for IOS 12.2T Feature Sets

The Cisco 2500 series routers have enjoyed a long and successful history since their introduction in 1993. Recently, many of the Cisco 2500 routers have entered the end-of-life (EOL) cycle and have been announced as end of sale (EOS). This has been a result of decreasing demand, customers requiring features that cannot be supported on the Cisco 2500, and the increasing monetary and resource costs required to continue supporting the product line.

The Cisco 2500 routers have maximum memory limits of 16-MB Flash and 16-MB of DRAM and are encountering difficulties in their ability to load and operate newer versions of Cisco IOS® Software. As code growth drives the size of Cisco IOS images near or over these limits, it becomes more difficult for the Cisco 2500s to support newer Cisco IOS Software versions. In previous Cisco 2500 EOS announcements, this memory limitation has been cited as a primary cause for some Cisco 2500 routers becoming EOS.

Because to this situation, the Cisco 2500 routers will begin supporting the 12.2T release of Cisco IOS Software with Version 12.2(4)T. Additionally, only three feature sets will be supported for the Cisco 2500 platform:

Feature Set Product Number

Cisco IOS Software

Cisco IOS Software Plus

Remote Access Server
