Detailed Information
New Software Features
Cisco 836 Interoperability Enhancements for U-R2
Supported platforms: Cisco 836 and SOHO 96; supported in all images.
An enhanced version of ADSL firmware is available for Cisco 836, specifically for U-R2 interfaces. This firmware is not bundled with the Cisco IOS release, but is available from Cisco upon request for download to the router from the Flash memory.
Public Wireless LAN
Supported platforms: Cisco 831, 836, 837 and 828; supported in all images.
•
Access Zone Router Function
–
Static IP Support—The Cisco solution will support client computers with static-IP addresses whereby these clients are able to connect to a Cisco enabled public WLAN without any reconfiguration of the client computer.
–
Location Identification—Option 82 Support on Access Router - Service providers that install the Cisco solution in locations such as airports need to be able to differentiate which access point (via the AP's IP address) a new user is attempting to connect to in the initial stage of the authentication process. Using the AP's IP address, Subscriber Edge Services Manager (SESM) can be configured to provide a distinct logon web page per AP or set of APs.
–
Common MAC format in Calling_Station_ID—Accommodate MAC address format in Calling_Station_ID change from vxWorks format (AP350) to IOS format (AP1100 and AP1200). AZR will be modified to support IOS Calling_Station_ID MAC address format and all access points must be IOS (if an AP350 is used, it must be upgraded to Cisco IOS Software, available in 4QCY'03) to compatible.
The following IOS features have been implemented on the Cisco 800 Series broadband platforms to support this application.
•
Authenticated ARP
•
DHCP-IP spoofing
•
DHCP option 82
•
DHCP accounting
•
Static IP
Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR)
Supported platforms: Cisco 831, 836, 837; supported in PLUS, PLUS ISDN DIAL BACKUP images.
NBAR is a functionality to look deep into packets in order to classify packets based on application level protocol information such as to understand the application and the content of data.
Embedded Syslog Manager (SMTP Email alert)
Supported platforms: Cisco 831, 836 and 837; supported in all images.
The embedded syslog manager features real-time alerts sent via e-mail to specific users. In addition to provide syslog files, it sends e-mail to predefined users.
Secure Shell Version 2 (SSHv2) Support
Supported platforms: Cisco 831, 836 and 837; supported in all images.
SSHv2 addresses the weaknesses and vulnerabilities that exist today with SSHv1 implementations. These include malicious man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks and integrity violations.
An enterprise customer or service provider intending to use automated remote secure telnet access for configuration and administration of router resources on a larger scale in the network will benefit from SSHv2. The secure telnet session establishment with SSHv2 is much faster than SSHv1.
Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking
Supported platforms: Cisco 1701, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1721, 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in all legacy images (y) and all cross-platform images except IP BASE.
The Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking feature allows for backup connections (for example, DDR) to be initiated by customer premises equipment (CPE) in scenarios where only static routes are used. The feature allows a target to be identified and pinged (or notified) via SAA over the primary interface. If the pings fail, the static route if removed from the routing table, triggers the predefined backup connection to be initiated on a backup interface. The pings continue to be transmitted over the primary interface. If the pings become successful again, the connection is reconstituted over the primary interface.
Conferencing and Transcoding for Voice Gateway Routers
Supported platforms: Cisco 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in legacy images containing VOX/PLUS images (sv8) and cross-platform images containing IP VOICE.
The Cisco Conferencing and Transcoding for Voice Gateway Routers feature provides enhanced multiservice support for Cisco routers in a Cisco CallManager network. This is accomplished by enabling audio conference and transcoding functions in the routers. This single-package solution simplifies deployments and eases administration. Cisco 1751 and 1760 support one conferencing sessions of six parties per single DSP (PVDM-256K-4); and support two transcoding channels per single DSP (PVDM-256K-4) to/from G.729a, G.729ab, G.723r63 to G.711 u-law and a-law.
Note:
This requires Cisco CallManager 3.3(2) or higher.
For the DSP resources required for your configuration, please refer to the DSP Calculator in the following URL link: http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/Support/DSP/dsp-calc.pl
NAT—Support for H.323v3 & v4 in v2 Compatibility Mode
Supported platforms: Cisco 1701, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1721, 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in all legacy images (y) and cross-platform images;
NAT support of H.323 Version 3 and Version 4. This support is required by Cisco and third-party gatekeepers, such as Clarent.
AutoQoS Phase 1
Supported platforms: Cisco 1701, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1721, 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in all legacy images (y) and cross-platform images.
The AutoQoS—VoIP feature allows you to automate the delivery of quality of service (QoS) on your network and provides a means for simplifying the implementation and provisioning of QoS for voice-over-IP (VoIP) traffic.
Modem Passthrough over Voice over IP (for SIP and MGCP)
Supported platforms: Cisco 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in legacy images containing VOX/PLUS images (sv8) and cross-platform images containing IP VOICE.
It delivers VoIP Modem Passthrough functionality over SIP and MGCP signaling protocols.
Cisco IOS VPN and Firewall enhancements
Supported platforms: Cisco 1701, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1721, 1751/1751-V and 1760; supported in legacy images containing IPSec 3DEC (k9) and cross-platform images containing SP Services or Advanced Security Services.
