Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(4)XW
Introduction
This product bulletin describes the survivable-remote-site-telephony (SRST) feature introduced in
Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(4)XW for the Cisco 175x modular access routers.
New Features
The SRST feature provides the Cisco CallManager with fallback support for the Cisco IP phones attached to the router on your local Ethernet. It is currently supported on the Cisco 2600, 3600, 3810, IAD 2400, and Catalyst® 4224 platforms. With 12.2(4)XW, the SRST feature is introduced to the Cisco 175x Series routers.
Prior to SRST, when the WAN connection between the remote branch-office router and the Cisco CallManager failed, or connectivity with the Cisco CallManager was lost for some other reason, the Cisco IP phones at the branch office became unusable for the duration of the failure. SRST was developed to overcome this problem. The feature provides call-handling support on the branch-office router for its attached Cisco IP phones when a failure occurs. The system automatically detects the failure, and using Simple Network Auto-Provisioning (SNAP) technology, auto-configures the branch-office router to provide call-processing service for the local IP phones. When the failure is restored, call-handling capabilities for the Cisco IP phones switch back to the primary Cisco CallManager. During a failure, the Cisco IP Phone displays a message to inform the user that the Cisco IP Phone is in the Cisco CallManager fallback mode and is able to perform a limited set of functions.
By providing SRST features on the Cisco 175x routers, Cisco is reducing the likelihood of voice-service disruption, giving its customers the confidence to deploy multiservice e-business applications that will enhance employee productivity and reduce costs.
The SRST provides the following features on the Cisco 175x:
•
Rehoming of IP phones to a local router when WAN failures occur
•
Maintenance of local extension-to-extension calls
•
Maintenance of extension-to-Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) calls
•
Maintenance of existing calls upon recovery
•
Support for IP and basic-telephone-service (POTS) phones
•
Speed dial and last-number redial
•
Direct-outward-dial calling
•
Direct-inward-dial calling
•
Caller ID and automatic-number-identification (ANI) support
•
Calling-party name
•
Distinctive ringing
•
Transfer (without consult)
•
Call hold and pickup
•
