Product Bulletin No. 1778
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(4)YH
Introduction
This product bulletin describes the new features introduced in Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(4)YH.
New Features
Terminal Line Security for PAD Connections
Terminal Line Security for packet assembler/disassembler (PAD) connections adds Cisco Closed Used Group (CUG) subscription capabilities to reduce the number of routers and, X.25 interfaces and reduce the configuration complexity required in a network design.
This is beneficial for customers who have a numerous asynchronous devices to configure for PAD access. Customers who want these devices to be configurable as a network attachment such as the asynchronous interface needs to be a distinct access point for customer premises equipment that can be configured for CUG security.
BRI Q.SIG
QSIG1 is a global signaling and control standard for PBXs, used in private corporate ISDN networks to link multiple vendors' PBX systems while retaining feature transparency. It is used primarily in Europe over E1 Primary Rate Interface (PRI) and Basic Rate Interface (BRI) trunks and occasionally in North America over T1 trunks. The Cisco 1700 Series supports PRI QSIG starting from Cisco IOS Release 12.2(4)YB. This release provides support of QSIG over BRI trunks in the future.
BRI QSIG offers benefits such as vendor independence, guaranteed PBX interoperability, free-form network topology, support for an unlimited number of nodes, flexible numbering plan, and flexibility of interconnecting transmission technologies (such as analog or digital leased lines, radio and satellite links, and public VPN services).
1 Q comes from the fact that the standard is an extension of the "Q" logical reference point defined by the ITU-T in its Q.93x services of ISDN SIGnaling system.
