Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(21)SX on Cisco 10000 Series
This product bulletin describes new features introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(21)SX for the Cisco 10000 series next generation Internet Router.
•It will run only on PRE1 (P10 image only)
•It will have feature parity with 12.0(21)ST
•It is a one off release to meet time to market/customer commitments
This product bulletin describes Cisco IOS Release 12.0(21)SX, which will offer E1 support for the 24-port E1/T1 copper module, and platform MIB enhancements. The release will be classed as an "limited availability" until Cisco IOS Release 12.0(22)S is posted later in the year. Customers will be expected to upgrade to Release 12.0(22)S for any bug fixes found in the SX release. This release is scheduled to post in late February 2002, and it will include full TAC support.
New Features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(21)SX
The following features and improvements are supported in Cisco IOS Release 12.0(21)SX:
E1 Support for 24-port E1/T1 Copper Module
The software will introduce channelized E1 functionality for the new 24-port E1/T1 copper line card, which will ship late February 2002. The module is the latest in the series of line cards recently introduced on the Cisco 10000 series router and provides for aggregation of "low speed" (less than 2Mbps) leased lines. The module will greatly expand the utility of the Cisco 10000 series router by meeting the requirements of distributed or remote POP (point of presence) applications. Here the private line presentation and densities are very different from the centralized PoP applications.
Full feature support including T1 framing and high availability will be offered in the next maintenance release, Cisco IOS Release 12.0(22)S.
The part number and list price for this module is listed below:
ESR-24CE1T1 - 24-port E1/T1 copper Line Card, Global List Price $35,000
The Cisco 10000 series router enhanced management feature allows the router to be managed through the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The feature also expands the number of Management Information Bases (MIBs) included with the router.
Using the Cisco 10000 enhanced management feature, you can:
•Use SNMP set and get requests to access information in Cisco 10000 MIBs
•Reduce the amount of time and system resources required to perform functions like inventory management and bulk data transfers
Other benefits include:
•A standards-based technology (SNMP) for monitoring faults and performance on the router
•Support for all SNMP versions (SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3)
•Notification of faults, alarms, and conditions that might affect services
•The ability to aggregate fault and alarm information for multiple entities
•A way to access router information other than through the command line interface (CLI)
