End-of-Life Announcement for the XC-10G Card for the
Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Multiservice Provisioning Platform

Cisco Systems^® announces the end of life of the XC-10G cross-connection card for the Cisco^® ONS 15454 SDH Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP). The last day to order the Cisco XC-10G card for the ONS 15454 SDH MSPP is March 1, 2004. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until March 1, 2009. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco XC-10G part. Table 2 outlines the Cisco product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Customers are encouraged to begin deploying the Cisco ONS 15454E-XC-VXL-10G cross-connection card providing new and enhanced bandwidth-management capabilities, including VC-4, VC-3, and VC-12 granular grooming support.

End of new service attachment date	For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.	March 1, 2005
End of service contract renewal date	The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.	March 1, 2008
Last date of support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	March 1, 2009

1 15454E-XC-VXL2.5G is the alternative replacement product for the XC-10G for STM-16 based systems only. STM-64 based systems require the 15454E-XC-VXL-10G for replacement.

Product Migration Options

The replacement for the Cisco XC-10G cross-connect card is either the Cisco XC-VXL-10G cross-connect card for 10-Gbps-based systems and 2.5-Gbps-based systems with upgrade plans for 10-Gbps operation or the Cisco XC-VXL-2.5G cross-connect card for 2.5-Gbps-based systems. An in-service cross-connect upgrade procedure from the XC-10G card to the XC-VXL-10G card or XC-VXL2.5G card is documented in the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Software Release 4.x user documentation. Tables 3 and 4 provide product comparisons and compatibility information for the cross-connect cards.

For applications that do not require low order, VC-3 or VC-12 grooming the XC-10G cross-connect card can continue to be used in the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH shelf and does not need to be upgraded. However, migration from the XC-10G to XC-VXL-10G cross-connect card will enhance the versatility of the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH platform, allowing support for aggregation of E1s, E3s and DS-3 service interfaces. The Cisco Technology Migration Program is available to assist customers who are planning to upgrade from XC-10G to XC-VXL-10G cross-connect cards.
