Metro Optical Transport Platform

Cisco Systems is proud to announce that Cisco ONS 15454 Metro Optical Transport Platform Release 3.1.0 is available for order (Figure 1). This product release delivers OC-192 capability to the industry-leading ONS 15454 platform. Release 3.1.0 includes the following 10-Gbps (10G)-enabled components:
•
Increased shelf bandwidth—The latest cross-connect card, model number XC-10G, increases the bandwidth of the platform. This card enables termination and management of up to 60 Gbps of revenue-generating services.
•Single-slot, long-reach OC-192 optical card—The OC-192 long-reach card allows users to take advantage of the fiber facility to carry additional services. The long-reach capability of the OC-192 card lowers network costs by reducing the need for optical amplification or electrical regeneration. This capability is provided in a package that requires only a single-shelf slot, enabling up to four OC-192 interfaces per shelf assembly.
•OC-48 any-slot flexibility—The any-slot OC-48 functionality offers high-bandwidth drop interfaces to complement the OC-192 system capabilities and can be used to aggregate traffic from as many as five subtending rings from a single-shelf assembly.
•Enhanced networking options—Four-fiber bidirectional line switch ring (BLSR) protection support further extends the flexibility of the ONS 15454 platform, enabling deployment of a single platform type across all transport architectures from a unified software load.
•Continued Multiservice support—The latest E-Series Ethernet cards provide transport of 10/100BaseT and Gigabit Ethernet services, along with other time-division multiplexing (TDM) services, across all transport speeds and networking architectures.
This complete solution provides customers with the smallest 10G footprint and the broadest multiservice capability of any metro optical transport platform in the industry.

The Cisco ONS 15454 Release 3.1.0 is designed to meet the demanding and evolving optical transport needs of service providers and large enterprise customers. These customers need service density and velocity to obtain profitability with the highest possible revenue per wavelength while securing the lowest cost per incremental service. Today's networks also require efficient service delivery, bandwidth scalability, multiservice capability from a single platform, and transport protocol flexibility (aggregate multiple low-bit-rate services on any transport backbone bandwidth). Cisco ONS 15454 Release 3.1.0 exceeds these requirements with the following features:
•Highest service density—Only metro optical transport solution to scale from DS1 to OC-192 in a single platform with integrated dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM)
•Multiservice support—Widest selection of service interfaces to support demanding metro transport network requirements
•Most transport flexibility—Only metro optical transport solution to support all network topologies, including four-fiber BLSR
•Lowest life cycle cost—Smallest footprint, easiest to engineer and install, and lowest cost per service
Availability and Ordering Information
All of the Cisco ONS 15454 Release 3.1.0 product components listed in Table 1 may be ordered today, with first customer shipments (FCS) by November 27, 2001.

Sales Programs and Limited-Time Offers
Cisco offers sales programs to help service providers develop and enhance their network solutions. Below are the current ONS 15454 programs available to all customers.
•10G/OC-192 assemble-to-order (ATO)—For a limited time, customers can buy an OC-192-equipped ONS 15454 system and receive the new 15454-SA-ANSI chassis and fan tray assembly at no cost (a US $3420 value). Customers interested in this special offer must use the new ATO part name, CISCO15454-10G, and comply with its configuration requirements. For program details, contact your local Cisco account manager.
•Upgrade 2 TCC+ program—For a limited time, customers can return Timing Communications and Control (TCC) cards and receive US $1300 credit toward the purchase of new TCC+ cards. For program details, contact your local Cisco account manager.
