End of Sale/EOL for the
Cisco Metro 1500 DWDM Platform
Cisco Systems is announcing the End of Sale/End of Life EOS/EOL of the Cisco Metro 1500 DWDM Platform, with an effective date of November 11th, 2002. Cisco customers may continue to receive hardware and software support for the periods set forth in the timelines and milestones detailed below.
The Cisco Metro 1500 is being discontinued in favor of the next-generation Cisco ONS 15530, which delivers high-density aggregation of ESCON, Fibre Channel, FICON, and GE over a 10GE wavelength, the ONS15540 which supports high-density transparent and 10GbE services and the Cisco ONS 15252 Metro DWDM Platform, which delivers low cost transparent data and storage networking. The Cisco ONS 15530 and Cisco ONS 15540 ESPx optical platforms provide enhanced service capabilities and IBM and EMC certification. The Cisco Complete Optical Multiservice Edge & Transport (COMET) products extend and integrate existing network infrastructures, enabling the delivery of any application or service over a single, end-to-end optical network.
After November 11, 2002 the Cisco Metro 1500 will no longer be orderable from the Cisco Connection Online (CCO) or Cisco Marketplace. Cisco is currently offering financial credits by way of the Cisco Technology Migration Program (TMP) for the replacement of the Cisco Metro 1500.
