Table 2. Product Part Numbers Affected by This Announcement
The recommended replacement for the Cisco IDS 4250-TX-K9 is the IPS 4255. The Cisco IPS 4255 is a purpose built 1 RU inline ready IDS/IPS appliance that delivers increased reliability and high performance at a reduced cost. The IPS 4255 delivers four onboard monitoring interfaces (compared to the single interface that is supported on the IDS-4250-TX). In contrast to the IDS 4250-TX, the IPS 4255 will be upgradeable to support an additional four copper or four fiber interfaces to deliver a total of 8 monitoring interfaces (in a subsequent release). The IPS 4255 has also incorporated various mechanisms that offer increased reliability by virtue of the reduction of moving parts within the sensor. The delivery of flash memory in the 4255 to replace the hard drive (in the 4250-TX) is an example of such a feature.
