Long Haul/Extended Long Haul Networking Solutions
The long-haul (up to 600 km between signal regenerations) and extended long-haul (up to 2000 km) network interconnects service PoPs. Because transport is the major concern here, low cost per bit and reach are the driving concerns along with scalability for long-term growth. Increased channel counts, tunable transponders to minimize sparing, optical mesh topologies, and longer span reach are capabilities that Cisco brings to this market. Future efficiencies in IP Next-Generation Networks will be driven through the use of tunable ITU-grid optics sourced directly from Layer 3 devices, eliminating the need for transponders
In long-haul and extended long-haul networks, new Cisco solutions scale to transmit up to 96x10-Gbps channels, or nearly one terabit per second (Tbps) of aggregated Metro traffic, and is capable of supporting 40 GB/s channels in the future. The use of reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexors (ROADMs) enables Wireline Carriers maximum flexibility in determining traffic patterns. As carriers continue to enhance their networks, Cisco solutions help lower the cost per bit of traffic delivered with solutions that will scale to fit the future service and bandwidth needs of their customers.
