The 642-104 UCSE exam measures the knowledge of technicians who install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco Unity 4 systems. Potential test candidates can prepare for the exam by attending the UCSA and UCSE courses and by reading the Cisco Unity product documentation (Installation Guide, CallManager Integration Guide, Troubleshooting Guide, Networking Guide, and System Administration Guide).
The following information provides general guidelines for the content likely to be included on the exam. However, other related topics may also appear on any specific delivery of the exam.
Install Cisco Unity System to meet end-user requirements
- Use the Cisco Unity Installation and Configuration Assistant to install the Unity System on a Microsoft Server
- Set up the appropriate Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 server components to support Cisco Unity System in either a voicemail or unified messaging environment
- Use the Cisco Unity Server Preparation Assistant to prepare and validate the server readiness for the Unity System installation
- Install ViewMail for Outlook or ViewMail for Notes on the client desktops
- List the steps to perform a Cisco Unity System installation
- Set up the appropriate integration between Cisco Unity and a PBX
Configure Cisco Unity System per stated requirements
- Configure Cisco Unity global settings to meet requirements
- Configure telephone user interface account policies, subscriber classes of service, and subscriber templates to prepare system for user account entry
- Add new users to the Cisco Unity System and verify functionality
- Import user accounts into the Cisco Unity System and verify functionality
- Configure autoattendant, voicemail and audiotext applications to meet requirements
- Configure Cisco Unity digital networking
- Explain the necessary configuration options to provide for system failover
Configure Cisco Unity System to exchange messages with non-Cisco messaging systems
- Configure delivery location objects to communicate with a non-Cisco messaging system
- Use configuration manager utility to setup and add interoperability accounts to either an Exchange or Domino messaging server
- Test and verify the interoperability of the Unity System with the non-Cisco messaging system
Maintain an installed Cisco Unity System
- Use Disaster and Recovery Tool to perform backup and restore procedures
- Use appropriate utilities to optimize data base performance
- Apply service packs and virus patches as appropriate
- Perform system and feature upgrades as necessary
- Use appropriate reports and utilities to maintain a properly functioning Cisco Unity System
Troubleshoot and repair Cisco Unity System installations
- Use the appropriate reports and utilities to troubleshoot Cisco Unity system problems
- Take the appropriate steps to repair an identified system failures
- Test and verify system configuration changes
Administer a Cisco Unity Server
- Generate and interpret system reports
- Use appropriate utilities to perform moves, adds and changes
Unified Communications Systems Engineer (UCSE) is the recommended training for this exam.
Training associated with the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) with a focus on Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003 is highly recommended.
