MLA Installation Overview

If you were running release 1.2(x) of the MLA software, upgrade to release 1.2(4a) will preserve the MLA data. Follow the instructions in the "Upgrading Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access" section.

Multilevel administration access installs on Cisco CallManager version 3.3(5) database publisher and subscriber(s) servers. Multilevel administration access installation creates a separate multilevel administration access database. This database gets replicated from the publisher to the subscribers on which multilevel administration access is installed. For failover of Cisco CallManager Administration and Serviceability with multilevel administration access, ensure that multilevel administration access is installed separately on the subscriber servers.

If the multilevel administration access database on the publisher server is down, multilevel administration access makes connection to the subscriber local multilevel administration access database with read-only access, and no modification to the multilevel administration access database can occur.

Multilevel administration access installation sets up the CCMAdmin and CCMService virtual directories with Anonymous Access for the Local NT administrator.

This section describes how to install the multilevel administration access on a user PC.

Note You can install multilevel administration access software only at the server console; you can access the server with Virtual Network Computing (VNC). MLA does not support Terminal Service remote installation.

Note After downloading the multilevel administration access executable, install it on the database publisher server. If redundancy is desired, install the executable on one or more subscriber servers.

Note After installing multilevel administration access, you must log in as CCMAdministrator with the password that you provided during the install. Your old Administrator password will no longer work.

Note If you encounter problems in installing MLA 1.2(4a), refer to the "Troubleshooting Information" section of the Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Troubleshooting Guide.

Procedure

Step 1 To launch the installer, double-click the downloaded file.

Step 2 If you want to restore MLA data from the MLA 1.1(1) database, answer Yes to the install question "Do you have a Multilevel Admin 1.1(1) database to be restored?" Otherwise, answer No.

If you have not backed up the MLA 1.1(1) database, install will prompt you to do so before continuing.

Step 3 At the Welcome to the MLA Installation Wizard window, click Next.

The License screen displays.

Step 4 To accept the license agreement, click Yes.

Step 5 Enter the Local System Administrator account information:

Userid: Administrator

Password:

Step 6 Click Next.

Step 7 Enter CCMAdministrator password:

Password:

Confirm Password:

Step 8 Click Next.

If the SQL System Administrator password is blank, Install displays a warning:

Your SQL SA password is blank. For security reasons, please change it.

Otherwise, a dialog for entering the password displays.

Step 9 Enter SQL System Administrator account information:

User ID: sa

Password:

Step 10 Click OK.

If the System Administrator password is wrong, Install displays a message:

Please enter the correct SQL SA password.

Return to step 9.

Step 11 Click Next.

The screen displays the Installation Directory information.

Upgrading Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access

When you upgrade Cisco CallManager software to a major release or to a maintenance release, you must reinstall Multilevel Administration Access software that is compatible with your new Cisco CallManager version. When installing support patches and engineering specials for Cisco CallManager, you must also install a corresponding support patch or engineering special for Multilevel Administration Access.

Use the following topics to upgrade and to back up the MLA database:

Upgrading from MLA 1.2(x)

Upgrading from MLA 1.1(1) Database to MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Backing Up and Restoring the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Upgrading from MLA 1.2(x)

MLA 1.2(4a) install preserves the MLA data when an upgrade from MLA 1.2(x) takes place.

Note Before you upgrade to MLA 1.2(4a), uninstall any previous (lower) version of MLA that is installed on the server. The MLA 1.2(4a) installer checks for existing MLA versions on the server. If the installer finds a previous MLA version, a popup window asks you to uninstall the previous MLA version prior to completing installation of MLA 1.2(4a), and the installation terminates. See the "Uninstalling Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access" section for the details of uninstalling MLA.

If you are upgrading from MLA 1.2(3) to MLA 1.2(4a), after the upgrade completes and the server reboots, clear the Internet Explorer (IE) cache before you start to use MLA. Use the following procedure to clear the cache:

Procedure

Step 1 Open an Internet Explorer session.

Step 2 Go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options.

Step 3 From the pop-up window, choose Delete Files.

Step 4 Check the Delete All Offline Content check box in the new pop-up window and click OK.

Step 5 In the Internet Options window, click OK again.

Upgrading from MLA 1.1(1) Database to MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Perform the procedures that follow when upgrading from MLA 1.1(1) database to MLA 1.2(4a) database. You need to complete two procedures to upgrade from MLA 1.1(1) database to MLA 1.2(4a) database:

Backing Up the MLA 1.1(1) Database

Restoring the MLA 1.1(1) Database Upon Installing Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access 1.2(4a)

Step 2 While installing Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access 1.2(4a), answer Yes when you are asked whether you want to restore the MLA 1.1(1) database.

Backing Up and Restoring the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

The Cisco CallManager Multilevel Administration Access database does not get backed up automatically when you back up the Cisco CallManager database. The MLA database resides in a separate database, MLADB0102. You must explicitly back up and restore the MLA database by following these procedures:

Backing Up the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Restoring the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Backing Up the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

Use the following procedure to back up the MLA 1.2(4a) database.

Procedure

Step 1 Go to C:\Ciscowebs\MLA\install directory.

Step 2 Run the backup.bat with the directory and filename where you want the database to be backed up. Use the SQL system administrator user password (sa).

Example: backup.bat c:\backup MLADBbkup ****

Restoring the MLA 1.2(4a) Database

You must use the following procedure to restore the MLA 1.2(4a) database.

Note Use this procedure only if the database has been backed up already. See the procedure in the "Backing Up the MLA 1.2(4a) Database" section.

Procedure

Step 1 Go to C:\Ciscowebs\MLA\install directory.

Step 2 Run the restore.bat with the filename from where you want the database to be restored (that is, the backup filename). Use the password for the SQL system administrator user (sa).

Example: restore.bat MLADBbkup ****

Synchronizing the SQL System Administrator Password

Cisco CallManager system administrators may change the SQL system administrator (SA) password after MLA has been installed. MLA uses a registry key to store the SQL SA password as an encrypted string. If the SQL SA password gets updated, you must also update the registry key; otherwise, MLA will fail to authenticate after the SQL SA password gets changed.

Use the following procedure to update the MLA registry, MultilevelAdmin > DbUserPassword (encrypted password), and synchronize the registry with the updated SQL SA password.

Procedure

Step 1 Open a CMD window on a Cisco CallManager server.

Step 2 Go to the C:\CiscoWebs\MLA\bin directory.

Step 3 To generate the encrypted SA password, execute the paenc command. Use the following format:

paenc [new SA password]

where [new SA password] specifies the changed SA password

Step 4 Copy the result and save the result in the registry,

\HKLC\SOFTWARE\Cisco Systems, Inc.\Multilevel Admin\DbUserPassword

Step 5 Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 on every Cisco CallManager server.
