Scope

This document provides regulatory, compliance, and safety information, and safety warning translations for the Cisco RF Gateway 10 Universal Edge QAM (U-EQAM), supporting modules in the chassis, cable interface line cards, and uplink cards. This document also provides translations, into twelve or more languages, of the safety warnings used in the documentation. Table 1 lists the components used in the Cisco RF Gateway 10 chassis.

Cisco RF Gateway 10 Overview

The Cisco RF Gateway 10 (RFGW-10) is a Carrier Class Universal Edge QAM (U-EQAM) platform that offers concurrent support for Standard and High Definition Digital Broadcast Television, Switched Digital Video (SDV), Video on Demand (VoD), and DOCSIS/Modular CMTS services. The RFGW-10 is a chassis based product designed around open standards with superior performance, capacity, power consumption, ease of management and scalability. All components of the Cisco RFGW-10 are designed for high availability including dual supervisor and Ethernet switching line cards, N+1 Universal Edge QAM line cards, dual timing and control line cards, due load balancing and load sharing power supplies and integrated RF switching modules.

The Cisco RF Gateway 10 is targeted to Cable Operators worldwide, and is optimized for operators wanting to provide carrier class high availability solutions and wanting to collapse video and data over cable EQAM functions into one common platform. A collapsed Universal EQAM architecture achieves the following business benefits; EQAM resource utilization gains, cost efficiencies, rack space optimization, reduced cost and complexity of management and high availability for all services. The Cisco RF Gateway 10 is part of Cisco's Cable ecosystem, and is fully integrated and tested as part of the Cisco Digital Broadband Delivery System (DBDS) video solution and Cisco uBR10012 DOCSIS 3.0 and Modular CMTS solution

Cisco RF Gateway 10 Component Locations

Figure 1 shows the location of front side and rear side system components for the Cisco RFGW-10 UEQAM.

The front side components include the supervisor cards, RF line cards, and the front panel LCD. The rear side components include the fan assembly, RF Switch cards (coaxial terminations), TCC (DTI Clock) cards, and the power supply modules.

All components (excluding the LCD) are hot-swappable and field replaceable. A fully configured system will operate with a single DC PEM installed; the second PEM is required for power supply redundancy and power load sharing.

Note Proper configuration of the DC power input requires that both Input 1 and Input 2 are connected to the external power source and the GND connections are connected to Earth GND. Input 1 and Input 2 on the DC are NOT redundant power inputs; if only one of the inputs are connected to external power the Cisco RFGW-10 will not power-on correctly.

Statement 163—Chassis Lifting Warning

Warning	To prevent personal injury or damage to the chassis, never attempt to lift or tilt the chassis using the handles on modules (such as power supplies, fans, or cards); these types of handles are not designed to support the weight of the unit.

Statement 292—Unterminated Fiber Warning

Warning	Invisible laser radiation may be emitted from the end of the unterminated fiber cable or connector. Do not view directly with optical instruments. Viewing the laser output with certain optical instruments (for example, eye loupes, magnifiers, and microscopes) within a distance of 100 mm may pose an eye hazard.
Waarschuwing	Er kunnen onzichtbare laserstralen worden uitgezonden vanuit het uiteinde van de onafgebroken vezelkabel of connector. Niet in de straal kijken of deze rechtstreeks bekijken met optische instrumenten. Als u de laseruitvoer met bepaalde optische instrumenten bekijkt (zoals bijv. een oogloep, vergrootgras of microscoop) binnen een afstand van 100 mm kan dit gevaar voor uw ogen opleveren.

EMC Environmental Conditions for Products Installed in the European Union

This section applies to products to be installed in the European Economic Union.

The equipment is intended to operate under the following environmental conditions with respect to EMC:

•A separate, defined location that is under user's control.

•As a minimum, earthing and bonding shall meet the requirements of ETS 300 253:1995 or CCITT K27:1996.

•AC power distribution inside the building shall be, as a minimum, one of the following types (as defined in IEC 60364-3:1993):

–TN-C

–TT

–IT

In addition, if equipment is operated in a domestic environment, radio-frequency interference may occur.

Class A and Class B Statements

This section lists the Class A and Class B statements for the Cisco RF Gateway 10. The information for users of Class A products is included in this section in the event that EMC performance is degraded due to the addition of a Class A product.

This product has been tested and verified to meet Class A requirements as defined in CFR 47 part 15 for the United States and in EN55022 as well as CISPR 22 for Europe and other international marketplaces. This product was tested in its customer orderable and shippable configuration, including certain port adapters and processor accessories representative of typical customer applications and meets Class A requirements.

Class A products produce more RF emissions than a Class B product and may cause allowable interference to other products.

Modifications to this product not authorized by Cisco Systems, Inc. could void the FCC approval and negate your authority to operate the product.

EMC Class A Notices and Warnings

This section includes the EMC Class A warnings for the Cisco RF Gateway 10.

Class A Notice for FCC

Modifying the equipment without Cisco's authorization may result in the equipment no longer complying with FCC requirements for Class A digital devices. In that event, your right to use the equipment may be limited by FCC regulations, and you may be required to correct any interference to radio or television communications at your own expense.

Telcordia GR-1089 NEBS Standard for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Safety

Warning To comply with the Telcordia GR-1089 NEBS standard for electromagnetic compatibility and safety, connect the serial high-speed WAN interface ports only to intra-building or unexposed wiring or cable. The intrabuilding cable must be shielded and the shield must be grounded at both ends. The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly must not be metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. These interfaces are designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. To comply with emission and immunity requirements, shielded cable is required for connection to the Cisco RF Gateway 10.

Warning The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly is suitable for connection to intra-building or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly MUST NOT metallically connect to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. Paint and non-conductive coatings shall be removed before joining the surfaces between the equipment chassis and mounting metalwork. The surfaces shall be cleaned and an anti-oxidant compound applied before joining the surfaces.

Battery Return Conductor

The battery return conductor of this equipment shall be treated as DC Common (DC-C).

Minimum Steady State DC Input Voltage

This equipment will operate without degradation at a minimum steady state voltage of -40 volts. The nominal DC input voltage rating is -48 volts.

Telecom Approvals Listing

The Cisco RF Gateway 10 meets the requirements listed in this section for telecommunications equipment.

FCC Part 68 Notice

The Cisco RF Gateway 10 equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. A label on the bottom of the chassis contains the FCC registration number among other information. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company.

This equipment cannot be used on telephone company-provided coin services. Connection to the Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs.

If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify you as soon as possible. You will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary.

The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that might affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will provide advance notice in order for you to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted service.

If you experience trouble with this equipment, please contact Cisco Systems for repair and warranty information. If the problem is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company might request that you remove the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved. All repairs should be handled by authorized Cisco Systems service personnel.

We recommend that you install an AC surge arrestor in the AC outlet to which this device is connected. This action will help to avoid damage to the equipment caused by local lightning strikes and other electrical surges.

This equipment uses the Uniform Service Order Code (USOC) jacks that is described in Table 4.

CS-03 Certification for Canada

The Cisco RF Gateway 10 meets the requirements of the Industry Canada label (CS-03) for telecommunications equipment. Table 5 lists the CS-03 approval numbers for the equipment.

Observe the following general information and safety precautions:

•The industry Canada label identifies CS-03 certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protection, operation, and safety requirements as described in the appropriate terminal equipment requirements document(s). The department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.

•Before installing the equipment, check that you have permission to connect it to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

•Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or any equipment malfunctions, may cause the telecommunications company to request that the user disconnect the equipment.

•Ensure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.

Japanese Electric Appliance and Radio Laws

When installing the product, please use the provided or designated connection cables/power cables/AC adapters. Using any other cables/adapters could cause a malfunction or a fire. Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law prohibits the use of UL-certified cables (that have the "UL" shown on the code) for any other electrical devices than products designated by CISCO. The use of cables that are certified by Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (that have "PSE" shown on the code) is not limited to CISCO-designated products.)

Compliance with U.S. Export Laws and Regulations Regarding Encryption

Cisco cable interface line cards perform encryption and are regulated for export by the U.S. government. Following is specific information regarding compliance with U.S. export laws and regulations for encryption products:

•Cisco cable interface line cards are not authorized for use by persons located outside the United States and Canada that do not have export license authority from the U.S. government.

•Cisco cable interface line cards may not be exported outside the U.S. and Canada either by physical or electronic means without the prior written approval of the U.S. government.

•Persons outside the U.S. and Canada may not re-export, resell, or transfer Cisco cable interface cards by either physical or electronic means without prior written approval of the U.S. government.
