The Building Block of Scale and Flexibility
The Cisco UCS M4308 Modular Chassis is the building block, the unit of scale, for the new UCS M-Series Modular Server platform. It delivers the benefits of this radically different architecture to UCS M-Series Compute Cartridges and provides easy scalability to meet the needs of your applications without over-provisioning.
Features and Capabilities
The Cisco UCS M4308 Modular Chassis platform delivers a unique new infrastructure to meet the needs of today's highly parallelized and distributed applications.
This unique design allows Cisco to abstract server sub-systems fully into the infrastructure, completely off the compute nodes. The disaggregated sub-components are:
- Hard drives
This separation of components in the UCS M4308 Modular Chassis lets users decouple the lifecycles of the sub-systems. Now every sub-component can be refreshed independently, on its own lifecycle schedule, without provoking a major platform refresh.
This 'independent resource' strategy can enable Cisco to optimize and more efficiently deliver infrastructure to meet the specific needs of your applications.
You no longer need costly and time-consuming professional services just to expand your compute capacity. With the M4308 and the M-Series solution, scaling is now easy and affordable.
The UCS M4308 design also allows for smaller increments of scale, so your applications can have the number of compute nodes that they require to achieve the desired performance and availability. No more over-provisioning. No more wasted resources. Everything rests under a single management tool for easy scale and management transparency.
With this groundbreaking design, the Cisco UCS M-Series provides a highly dense, modular, and power-efficient platform designed to meet the needs of parallelized workloads. It provides for optimal:
- Performance and Watt usage
- Compute capacity and rack unit space
The UCS M-Series Modular Server system features a new 2 rack-unit (RU) chassis built on the foundation of Cisco innovation in virtual interface card (VIC) technology. All M4308 chassis connect to a pair of Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects with UCS Manager, providing easy, fast scalability with industry-leading UCS management.
The Cisco award-winning UCS Manager provides management for the M-Series with consistency and simplicity in device management. UCS Manager is a model-based, automated tool for element management that allows for easy integration with higher-level tools using our open XML API.
