Cable Management and Services

Introduction

Cable Management and Services are at the application layer. The two most widely used under this scheme are The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) along with Cisco Network Registrar (CNR).

SNMP facilitates the exchange of management information between network devices. It is part of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol suite. SNMP enables network administrators to manage network performance, find and solve network problems, and plan for network growth. Cisco Network Registrar is an application used to provision ip addressing via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) used mostly to translate between domain names and IP addresses, and to control Internet email delivery. Other applications include: Cisco Cable Troubleshooter, Cisco DOCSIS Configurator, Cisco Cable Manager, and Broadband Service Manager (BBSM).
