Overview

There are two versions of Cisco Cius:

Cisco Cius SP is a High Speed Packet Access Evolved (HSPA+) 4G wireless version of the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration endpoint.

Cisco Cius Wi-Fi only is a Wi-Fi version of the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration endpoint. It does not have High Speed Packet Access Evolved (HSPA+) 4G wireless capability.

Capabilities include:

Cisco Cius SP wireless, featuring the Cisco 4G HSPA+ Enhanced High-Speed WAN Interface Card (EHWIC), part of Cisco's comprehensive next-generation mobile Internet architecture deployment. Cisco Cius SP implements Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology, allowing users to seamlessly collaborate when using the Cisco Cius in areas that are not covered by their corporate Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), 4G data, and Bluetooth

HD video (720p) includes interoperability with Cisco TelePresence systems with the EX Series

Virtual Experience Infrastructure (VXI) thin-client integration

Cisco AppHQ

Collaboration applications such as Cisco Quad, Jabber IM, and Presence, as well as integrated, one-click access to Cisco WebEx meetings

Mobile collaboration endpoint highlights include:

Cisco Compatible Extensions powered wireless communications device, optimized to work with a Cisco Wireless LAN infrastructure

7-inch diagonal, high-resolution color screen with contact-based touch targets

Optional HD media station with USB peripherals, 10/100/1000 wired connectivity, and a handset option

Detachable and serviceable battery

Highly secure remote connections with Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

HD audio with wideband support (mobile collaboration endpoint, HD media station)

Downgrading

Downgrading Cisco Cius from Release 9.2(4) to a previous release resets all Cisco Cius device settings to the default values.

Idle System

The Cisco Cius SP may freeze when left idle for several hours. The Wi-Fi only version does not seem to be impacted by this particular issue.

Email

You may receive an unable to connect to server due to security error message. This is a known issue with Android 2.2. Reboot the device and open the inbox or outbox to trigger the Email application to successfully connect to the server.

An outgoing message may get stuck in the outbox while incoming messages are still received. This is a commonly reported issue with Android 2.2 and is most often seen with Microsoft Exchange 2003. In many cases, the outgoing messages are eventually sent. If not, try opening the email again and tapping the Send button. If this fails, manually delete the stuck outbox messages.

Calendar

Multiple instances of a one-time event may appear in the Calendar application. This occurs intermittently for devices that run Android 2.2.

To recover the Calendar data, the affected events can be deleted and created again, or the exchange account can be deleted and re-added.

Setup Wizard

Cisco Cius 9.2(4) supports the configuration of Visual Voice Mail from the Setup Wizard application.

When you upgrade to Cisco Cius 9.2(4) from a previous release, the Setup Wizard application is launched automatically. User configurations are preserved on upgrade and users can simply tap Skip if they have no configuration changes to make.

Battery Charging

Cisco Cius needs a minimum charge before it can boot. When your Cisco Cius is powered down and connected to a charging device, the Home key LED lights red if the battery does not have sufficient charge to boot. When the LED turns off, Cisco Cius has sufficient charge to boot, can be powered on, and continues to charge.

If your Cisco Cius does not boot up, plug it into the power adapter for several minutes and allow it to charge before attempting to boot again.

After your Cisco Cius has successfully booted, battery charge status is indicated only on the notification bar.

IM Status Bar Notifications

Status bar notifications for the IM application are activated by default. When Status bar notifications are active, incoming IM messages are readable via the top bar notification even when the screen is locked. The IM is only visible for a second, but the content of the IM is viewable for that short interval. Status bar notifications can be turned off via Account Settings in the IM Application.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Support

Cisco Cius is supported in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(5), 8.0(3), 8.5(x), and later.

Third-party applications

Applications from non-Cisco stores are not tested or optimized to work with Cisco Cius and entail a security risk. Installation of these applications increases the risk of attack to both Cisco Cius hardware and user data. Installation of these applications may also fail. Cisco Cius administrators should disable Android marketplace access and side loading of applications to protect users and the network.

SIP Profile Timer Registers

When configuring SIP Profiles, Cisco recommends creation of a custom SIP Profile for Cisco Cius with the Timer Register Delta field set to 600 seconds and the Timer Register Expires field set to 180 seconds. These values provides Cisco Cius the required 180-second window to successfully register to Cisco Unified Ccommunications Manager.

To configure these settings, choose Device > Device Settings > SIP Profile in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager SIP Profile Configuration window.

Note The above SIP Profile settings apply only to Cisco Cius devices that connect to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 9.x or or 8.5(SU).

VDI Applications

When using Citrix Receiver, VMware View or Wyse PocketCloud, access to the hosted virtual desktop via a "non-transparent" web-proxy server is not supported.

Caveats

Open Software Caveats

Resolved Software Caveats

Using Bug Toolkit

The system grades known problems (bugs) according to severity level. These release notes contain descriptions of the following bug levels:

All severity level 1 or 2 bugs

Significant severity level 3 bugs

You can search for problems by using the Cisco Software Bug Toolkit.

To access Bug Toolkit, you need the following items:

Internet connection

Web browser

Cisco.com user ID and password

To use the Software Bug Toolkit, follow these steps:

Procedure

Step 1 Access the Bug Toolkit at http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit.

Step 2 Log in with your Cisco.com user ID and password.

Step 3 If you are looking for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the Search for Bug ID field, and click Go.

Tip Click Help on the Bug Toolkit page for information about how to search for bugs, create saved searches, create bug groups, and so on.

Open Software Caveats

Note Because defect status continually changes, be aware that the "Open Software Caveats as of June 7, 2012" section reflects a snapshot of the defects that were open at the time this document was released. For an updated view of open defects, access Bug Toolkit and follow the instructions as described in the "Using Bug Toolkit" section.

Tip Bug Toolkit requires that you have an account with Cisco.com (Cisco Connection Online). By using the Bug Toolkit, you can find caveats of any severity for any release. Bug Toolkit may also provide a more current listing than this document provides. To access the Bug Toolkit, log in to http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/launch_bugtool.pl.
