Overview

There are two versions of Cisco Cius:

Cisco Cius SP is a High Speed Packet Access Evolved (HSPA+) 4G wireless version of the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration endpoint.

Cisco Cius Wi-Fi only is a Wi-Fi version of the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration endpoint. It does not have High Speed Packet Access Evolved (HSPA+) 4G wireless capability.

Capabilities include:

Cisco Cius SP wireless, featuring the Cisco 4G HSPA+ Enhanced High-Speed WAN Interface Card (EHWIC), part of Cisco's comprehensive next-generation mobile Internet architecture deployment. Cisco Cius SP implements Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology, allowing users to seamlessly collaborate when using the Cisco Cius in areas not covered by their corporate Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), 4G data, and Bluetooth

HD video (720p) including interoperability with Cisco TelePresence systems with the EX Series

Virtual Experience Infrastructure (VXI) thin-client integration

Cisco AppHQ

Collaboration applications include Cisco Quad, Jabber IM, and Presence, as well as integrated, one-click access to WebEx meetings

Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) Support For AnyConnect VPN

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) supports SCEP for AnyConnect VPN, providing an easy and secure mechanism to deploy certificates from the certificate authority (CA) to the end devices.

Wi-Fi Authentication Support for EAP-TLS and PEAP-GTC

The Cisco Wireless IP telephony solution provides wireless network security that prevents unauthorized sign-in and compromised communications. Cisco Cius 9.2(3) adds support for the following authentication methods:

EAP-TLS (Extensible Authentication Protocol-Transport Layer Security)

PEAP-GTC/MSCHAPV2 (Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol-Generic Token Card/Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol Version 2)

Battery Performance

Cisco Cius Release 9.2(3) battery performance is improved by roughly 10 percent for typical usage (E-mail, web-browsing, HD video calls, AppHQ and WebEx 2.0).

Call Control API Wrapper

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) adds support for Call Control API Wrapper, enabling external developers to use Cisco Telephony Provider APIs as system service via Cisco Telephony Manager.

Wi-Fi Serviceability

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) presents an error message if the end user enters the wrong Wi-Fi credentials.

Visual Voice Mail Enhancements

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) features the following Visual Voice Mail enhancements:

A new tab for voice mail, a new log-in screen, new icons in detailed page.

Audio Path support provides the ability to route between headset and speaker phone and vice versa during playback of voice messages.

Integration into Setup Wizard

Integration with Unified Inbox

Users can now access the voice mail from a particular contact in the contact filter.

Missed and received voice mails are sorted by most recent in the Calls panel with the most recent at the top of the list on the left side. Missed and received calls are grouped if they occur in sequence similar to Cisco Unified IP Phone 8961, 9951, and 9971.

Email Enhancements

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) features the following Email enhancements:

Improved error handling for large emails:
An email attachment that is too large to download appears with a warning triangle and a warning message (in addition to the buttons being absent). When composing an email with an attachment over 3 MBytes (but under the Cisco Cius maximum limit), a warning appears as a popup message that the email may not be successfully sent. Click OK to ignore and send the email.

Support for Digitally Signed Email (limited to Microsoft Exchange 2003).


Note Microsoft Exchange 2003 digitally signed attachments will display unknown size.


Search Inbox

Sort inbox by From/Subject/Date

Automatically add Cc or Bcc fields to email if "Reply all" is selected

Capability to move to Previous or Next email in portrait mode

Move messages to folders or undelete from trash

Contact ribbon support for "To:" and "Cc:" addressees

Features Available with the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Device Pack Containing the Cisco Cius 9.2(3) Configuration Files

The following features require the installation of a Cisco Unified Communications Manager device pack containing the Cisco Cius 9.2(3) configuration files. The device pack installs the firmware and the configuration files needed to enable the features. These features can be configured and may be turned off by default. Once turned on, these features may also have attributes or settings that can be configured. Please see the sections below for more details.

NTLM/Kerberos Authentication

For Cisco Cius 9.2(3), the Cisco Cius HTTP client can authenticate with an HTTP Proxy Server configured with NTLM and Kerberos authentication types. Cisco Cius 9.2(3) continues to support authentication methods such as basic authentication and digest authentication mechanisms that were supported in 9.2(2) and earlier.

Before using the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration endpoint with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers in the cluster.

To download and install the Cisco Unified Communications Manager version, see the Installation and Upgrade Guides for Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

Installing Firmware for SIP

Before installing the firmware, use Table 2 below to verify that the installed release of Cisco Unified Communications Manager supports Cisco Cius. If the installed release does not support Cisco Cius, you must upgrade or install a device pack that supports Cius.

To download and install the latest Cisco Unified Communications Manager device pack, follow these steps:

Step 1 Browse to http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html?mode=home

Step 2 In the left hand side of the page, click on Install and Upgrade.

Step 3 In the middle column, click Voice and Unified Communications.

Step 4 In the right column, click IP Telephony > Unified Communications Platform> Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CallManager).

Step 5 In the right column, click on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager release that is currently installed.

Step 6 On the Download Software page, click Unified Communications Manager/CallManager Device Packages.

Step 7 Download and install the latest Cisco Unified Communications Manager device pack with Cisco Cius support.


To download and install the phone firmware, follow these steps:

Step 3 Click Download or Add to Cart and follow the prompts


Note If you added the firmware file to the cart, click the Download Cart link when you are ready to download the file.


Step 4 Click the + next to the firmware file name in the Download Cart section to access additional information about this file. The hyperlink for the Readme file is in the Additional Information section, which contains installation instructions for the firmware:

The Cisco Cius SP may freeze when left idle for several hours. This freeze is seen most often when running Live Wallpaper, which is not recommended. The Wi-Fi only version does not seem to be impacted by this particular issue. Cisco intends to resolve this issue in Cisco Cius Release 9.2(4).

Email

You may receive an unable to connect to server due to security error message. This is a known issue with Android 2.2. Reboot the device and open the inbox or outbox to trigger the Email application to successfully connect to the server.

An outgoing message may get stuck in the outbox while incoming messages are still received. This is a commonly reported issue with Android 2.2, and is seen most often with Microsoft Exchange 2003. In many cases, the outgoing messages are eventually sent. If not, try opening the email again and tapping the Send button. If this fails, manually delete the stuck outbox messages.

Calendar

Multiple instances of a one-time event may appear in the Calendar application. This occurs intermittently for devices running Android 2.2.

To recover the Calendar data, the affected events can be deleted and created again or the exchange account can be deleted and re-added.

Setup Wizard

Cisco Cius 9.2(3) adds support for the configuration of Visual Voice Mail from the Setup Wizard application.

When upgrading to Cisco Cius 9.2(3) from a previous release, the Setup Wizard application is launched automatically. User configurations are preserved on upgrade and users can simply tap skip if they have no configuration changes to make.

Battery Charging

The Cisco Cius needs a minimum charge before it will boot. If your device has trouble booting, plug it into the power adapter for several minutes and allow it to charge before attempting to boot again.

When your Cius is powered down and connected to a charging device, the Home key LED indicates whether the Cius has enough charge to boot. If the LED is white, the battery is charging but does not have sufficient charge to boot. If the LED is red, the battery is charging and there is sufficient charge to boot. After the Cius has booted, battery charge status is indicated only on the notification bar.

IM Status Bar Notifications

Status bar notifications for the IM application are activated by default. When Status bar notifications are active, incoming IM messages are readable via the top bar notification even when the screen is locked. The IM is only visible for a second, but the content of the IM is viewable for that short interval. Status bar notifications can be turned off via Account Settings in the IM Application.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Support

Cisco Cius is supported in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(5), 8.5(1), 8.6(1) and later. Cisco Cius is not supported in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.0.

CSCts70604 Common Profile Setting Does Not Enforce Android Market / Cisco AppHQ

Applications from non-Cisco stores are not tested or optimized to work with Cisco Cius and entail a security risk. Installation of these applications increases the risk of attack to both Cisco Cius hardware and user data. Installation of these applications may also fail. Cisco Cius Administrators should disable Android marketplace access and side loading of applications to protect users and the network.

CSCtw44876 Call dropped on roaming testbed with PEAP-GTC and EAP-TLS

Cisco Cius utilizes TCP for SIP communications and CUCM registrations could potentially be lost if an AP is at full capacity. Frames to or from a client that has not been "authorized" via CAC can be dropped, leading to CUCM de-registration. Therefore it is recommended to disable SiP CAC.

Using Bug Toolkit
