The AdminConfig.xml file is available in the ViewMail for Outlook installation folder. This document describes how the AdminConfig.xml file can be used to prepopulate user and voicemail server information when ViewMail for Outlook installation is being pushed out to users.

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Cisco ViewMail for Microsoft Outlook Release 8.5

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5

  • Microsoft Outlook 2010

Background Information

By using ViewMail for Outlook to access Cisco Unity Connection voice messages, users can play and record voice messages by using the Media Master.

ViewMail for Outlook gives users the capability to compose, retrieve, and manage voice messages, email messages, and faxes through the same interface. For example, you can send a voice message to a colleague from your desktop PC instead of having to use the phone.

Configure ViewMail for Outlook

The AdminConfig.xml file for ViewMail is mostly configured for enterprise deployment.

Complete these steps in order to associate an email account with the Voicemail Server:

  1. Install ViewMail for Outlook 8.5.

  2. Associate the applicable email account with the voicemail server:

Install ViewMail for Outlook 8.5

Complete these steps:

  1. If Microsoft Outlook is running, exit the application.

  2. In the ViewMail folder, double-click the setup.exe. It installs prerequisite software, as needed; places the AdminConfig.xml file in the correct location; and uninstalls older versions during upgrades.

  3. Perform the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

  4. Restart Outlook.

Associate the Applicable Email Account with the Voicemail Server using the wizard

Complete these steps:

  1. The Cisco ViewMail for Outlook Initialization Wizard starts the first time Microsoft Outlook runs after ViewMail is installed on a user workstation and there is no existing information about an IMAP or Exchange account associated with a voicemail server.

  2. The wizard runs on a per-Outlook-profile basis and prompts the user for any required server or user information that has not already been prepopulated for the selected account.

Enter the applicable information in each field:

    Field Setting
Voicemail Server Type Select the voicemail server type to associate with the email account.
Username* Enter the username (alias) of the user.
Password* Enter the user's Cisco PCA password (also known as the web application password).
Voicemail Server Name Enter the name of the voicemail server.
Voicemail Server Status Display only. (Possible values are "Connected," "Not Connected," "Invalid Credentials," and "Unknown.")
Phone Number Enter the extension or a phone number for the user. This setting is required only if you want the user to be able to record or play messages by using the phone.
Recording Device Select the preferred device.
Playback Device Select the preferred device.

    * For silent installation of ViewMail for Outlook, in the AdminConfig.xml file, the user ID should be the login name of the system whereas the username and password should be the user name and password of Cisco Unity Connection.

  3. When users' Outlook profiles have email accounts that are not already associated with a voicemail server, users can manually start the Initialization Wizard to associate those accounts.

  4. Click Test settings. When you see the Account setting test completed successfully message, click Next, and then Finish.

Complete these steps in order to add a new user:

  1. In Outlook, open the ViewMail Setting.

  2. Choose Add, then choose the account to associate with a voicemail server.

If the user wants to change the previously configured items, click the settings tab.

Note: If users manually start the wizard and there are no available email accounts to associate with a voicemail server, they will see the message "All accounts have been associated with voicemail servers."

Associate the Applicable Email Account with the Voicemail Server using AdminConfig.xml

The AdminConfig.xml file does not perform any actions on its own. It just acts as the answer file for the VMO. It prepopulates the responses to the VMO initialization wizard. In order for the AdminConfig.xml file to work properly, you must link the applicable IMAP account or Exchange account with the voicemail server. This ensures that messages composed using ViewMail for Outlook are sent to the voicemail server.

Complete these steps for each user workstation:

  1. Open the AdminConfig.xml file from C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\ViewMail for Outlook (by default, ViewMail for Outlook files are installed in this directory).

  2. The AdminConfig.xml file has two main sections: the Configurations section and the Users optional section.

  3. In this example, for the Outlook profile which is already associated with an Exchange server, you need to add this line in the Configurations section:

<Configuration server="voicemail server name" type="Exchange Server Name to
    which the user is hooked."/>

Remember, in this example no user is specified.

  4. If you click Initialize Cisco ViewMail, you can see the wizard by skipping the Voicemail Server Name that goes to the Username page.

  5. Click Back in order to see that the Voicemail Server Name has populated from the AutoConfig.xml file.

  6. Similarly, in this example, which is for an IMAP account in the users section, we will give the <user id ="Administrator" username="anyname" phone="phonenumber"/>.

  7. Now, when you open the Initialize Cisco ViewMail window, you can find the username and phone number you entered earlier has been pre-populated in the Username and the Phone Number fields.

When a voicemail message is opened from Outlook, this error message is received:

To help prevent malicious code from running, one or more objects in this
form were not loaded. For more information, contact your administrator.

Unable to install an older version of VMO after installation of a newer version.
