Introduction

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Bulk Administration (BAT) gives the administrator a fast and efficient way to add, update, or delete large numbers of phones in batches, rather than performing individual updates through Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration.

This document describes the configuration of the Cisco VG 224 Analog Voice Gateway device using BAT.

Prerequisites

Requirements

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.x

  • Cisco VG 224 Analog Voice Gateway

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager Bulk Administration Tool 7.1(2)

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Configure VG 224 Ports using BAT

BAT is installed as part of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. BAT uses a multistep process to prepare the bulk configuration transaction. There is no way to configure the port with BAT after already adding in the gateways. You have to add the ports in with the gateway when you run the BAT file.

Perform these steps in order to configure VG224 and add its ports using BAT:

Note: VG224 endpoints must be added as Insert Gateway and not as Insert Phone.

  1. Create the VG224 Gateway Template.

  2. Configure a VG224 port with the minimum required settings in the Gateway template that is to be used as the line template.

  3. Create the BAT file.

  4. Insert the Gateway through BAT.

Create the VG224 Gateway Template

A single port must be configured in the Gateway template as this serves as the line template. You need both the Gateway template and the line template to correctly add VG224 endpoints. Perform these steps in order to create the VG224 Gateway template:

  1. Navigate to Bulk Administration > Gateways > Gateways Template.

  2. Click Add New and choose VG224 as the Gateway Type.

  3. Click Next and choose the Protocol type as SCCP or MGCP. In this example, we are using SCCP. Click Next.

  4. Enter a Template name (the template name entered here is VG224-Template). Choose the value Default for Cisco Unified Communications Manager group. Set the Module in Slot 2 as Analog and Subunit 0 as 24FXS-SCCP, and click Save.

  5. Click the first port (2/0/0) and configure with the minimum required settings, to be used as a template. Only 1 out of 24 ports needs to be configured. The remaining unconfigured ports will assume the settings of the configured port. Enter the minimum details like Device Pool, Phone Button Template, Common Phone Profile, Device Security Profile, etc, and click Save.

  6. In order to add the line template, click Add a new DN and then click Save after Entering the Line Template Name and Associating the Phone Template.

You have now created a Gateway Template, and inside the Gateway Template you have defined the Line Template using Extension 7941.

Create the BAT File

Perform these steps in order to create the BAT file:

  1. Using the BAT template, create the BAT file and upload it after modifying as per this format in the sample file:

    DOMAIN NAME,DESCRIPTION,SLOT,SUBUNIT,PORT DIRECTORY NUMBER,PORT NUMBER,PORT DESCRIPTION
             SKIGW001c2516aa,VG224-Template,2,0,6000,0,Analog Phone Desp 1
             SKIGW001c2516aa,VG224-Template,2,0,6001,1,Analog Phone Desp 2
             SKIGW001c2516aa,VG224-Template,2,0,6003,2,Analog Phone Desp 3
             SKIGW111c2765dd,VG224-Template,2,0,8004,5,Analog Phone Desp 1
    1. Enter the first 10 digits of the MAC on the first column.

    2. For Slot, always choose 2, and subunit 0.

    3. For the Port Number column, fill in the rows from 0-23.

  2. Save the file as VG224.txt.

  3. Upload the VG224.txt file by going to Bulk Administration > Upload/Download Files.

Insert the Gateway through BAT

Perform these steps in order to insert the Gateway through BAT:

Note: Only 1 out of 24 ports needs to be configured. The remaining unconfigured ports will assume the settings of the configured port. Cisco Unified Communications Manager automatically appends 3 digits at the end of the 10 digits to create unique MAC addresses for each VG Phone.

  1. Go to Bulk Administration > Gateways > Insert Gateways.

  2. Choose the Gateway type as VG224 and click Next.

  3. Select the Filename as VG224.txt and Gateway Template Name as VG224-Template, and choose Run Immediately for Job Information.

  4. Click Submit and Insert Gateways Using BAT.

Troubleshoot

Problem

When you configure Line DN on Ports on SCCP VG224 with bulk insert, this error message is received:

Missing key in referenced table for referential constraint
    (informix.fk_devicenumplanmap_fknumplan)

Solution

This issue is documented in Cisco Bug ID CSCto73879 (registered customers only) . In order to resolve this issue, remove "1" from the header fields and save the BAT.xlt file. For example, if the field is "DISPLAY 1", change the field name to "DISPLAY".
