Problem Description

Presenters may be unable to share desktop or applications when using Adobe Flash versions 9.0.115 or 9.0.124 with MeetingPlace Web Conferencing versions 6.0 and later or MeetingPlace Express versions 2.0.1.15 and earlier.

This problem does not affect web conference attendees viewing shared material.

Background

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing:

All versions of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing 6.0 may be affected when used with Adobe Flash versions v9.0.115 or v9.0.124.

Specific affected versions of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing 6.0 are:

-6.0 (6.0.171)
-6.0MR1 (6.0.244)
-6.0MR2 (6.0.361)
-6.0MR3 (6.0.417)

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express:

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express versions 2.0.1.15 and earlier may be affected when used with Adobe Flash versions v9.0.115 or v9.0.124. MeetingPlace Express versions 2.0.2.126 and 2.0.3.35 are not affected.

This problem affects all Windows and MAC client computers which require Presenter capabilities such as application or desktop sharing. Attendees who do not participate in sharing are not affected and will not require the workaround steps.

Problem Symptoms

When trying to enter a MeetingPlace Web 6.0 or MeetingPlace Express 2.0.1.15 or earlier meeting room, the attendee is prompted with the following message to install the Presenter Add-in if they wish to share their desktop or an application:

"To use this application, you need the Cisco Unified Presenter Add-in. Would you like to install it now?"

If the presenter chooses "Yes" to install the Add-in, a dialog box will quickly appear and then disappear, as if the installation took place. When the presenter attempts to share, they will receive the same message again.

This event will occur even if the Presenter Add-in has been previously installed.

Workaround/Solution

There are two options of applying the solution for both Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express: online and offline.

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing:

1) The online solution requires end users to have an internet connection and the rights to install software on their own PCs. When end users load the web meeting room to join a meeting, they will see the pop-up to download the Presenter Add-in, which is the same as when they try to share an application. If they choose to install, the update will be downloaded for both Windows and Mac users and the Add-in will automatically launch.

2) The offline solution is for the end users that install the Add-in from the MeetingPlace Web home page or from the IT department. The MeetingPlace Web hotfix for Windows end users and installation instructions are available here (registered customers only). The hotfix for Mac users will be available shortly.

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express:

1) The online solution requires end users to have an internet connection and the rights to install software on their own PCs. When end users load the web meeting room to join a meeting, they will see the pop-up to download the Presenter Add-in, which is the same as when they try to share an application. If they choose to install, the update will be downloaded for only Windows users and the Add-in will automatically launch. An online update for Mac users is expected shortly.

2) The offline solution is for the end users that install the Add-in from the MeetingPlace Express home page or from the IT department. The fix for MeetingPlace Express is contained within versions 2.0.2.126 or 2.0.3.35 and can be obtained here (registered customers only).
