Problem Description

Some SFPs within the Serial Number range listed above cannot be placed in service on the ONS15310 platform. If the SFP is currently operational in an ONS15310 system, then it is not affected by this issue.

Background

A batch of ONS OC12 IR SFPs contains an incorrect IDPROM VERIFICATION (EXTENTED ID) value which disables the Software's ability to correctly recognize this pluggable, leading to an MEA alarm.

Problem Symptoms

SFPs falling within the Serial Number range listed above being inserted into a 15310MA CTX card immediately cause an MEA alarm, resulting in the port being unable to achieve the In-Service State and the inability to set up traffic.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco recommends a fix-on-fail strategy for this problem.

Software release 7.2.2 has been updated to address this issue. By upgrading to ONS15310 Software Release 7.2.2 (Available for download on Cisco.com), this issue will be overcome.

If upgrading to R7.2.2 is not possible, you may request a replacement.

As of approximately October 11, 2006, newly manufactured products are free of this problem.

Product shipped from Service Logistics may still exhibit this problem. To ensure an RMA replacement is not affected by this problem, request an RMA coded as shown below:

Service Level: Mfg New - 3rd Bus Day NON BILLABLE

Failure Class: Administrative Request

Failure Code: Field Notice Alert

Note: Replacements fulfilled through this process typically take 3 business days or more to arrive on-site, therefore service level agreements do not apply to RMAs coded as shown above.
