Cisco 7200 Series
Cisco 7200VXR Series
Cisco 7401
Cisco uBR7246VXR
When connecting to an AUX port on a Cisco 7200, Cisco 7200VXR, Cisco uBR7246VXR (using the 2FE/E I/O controller) or Cisco 7401, the port will not function at baud rates higher than 19.2k. If the baud rate on the connecting device is set higher than 19.2k, either nothing or garbled text will be displayed on the screen.
The baud rate issue is due to a limitation in Cisco IOS® Software and is not a problem with the hardware. Replacing the hardware, either the router or connecting device, will not solve the problem. The fix is to set the baud rate on the connecting device to 19.2k or slower.
If the baud rate on the connecting device is set to a baud rate faster than 19.2k, the connecting device will display either nothing or garbled text.
As described earlier, this problem is due to a limitation in Cisco IOS software and is not a hardware problem. To fix the problem, change the baud rate on the connecting device to be 19.2k or slower. This will allow the connecting device to properly connect to the AUX port on the router. At this point, the command line interface text should appear properly on the screen.
