Features and Capabilities

High Performance with Comprehensive Feature Set

Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switches offer one of the most comprehensive data center network feature sets in a single platform. They deliver high performance and density for both data center and campus core. They also offer a full feature set for data center aggregation, end-of-row, and data center interconnect (DCI) deployments in a highly resilient modular platform.

The Cisco Nexus 7000 Series runs on Cisco NX-OS Software. It was specifically developed for the most mission-critical enterprise and service provider deployments.

The Cisco Nexus 7000 Series was designed around three principles:

Infrastructure Scalability

Virtualization, efficient power and cooling, cloud scale with automation, high density, and performance all support efficient data center growth.

Operational Continuity

The design integrates hardware, NX-OS software features, and management to support zero-downtime environments.

Transport Flexibility

You can incrementally and cost-effectively adopt new networking technologies.

Technologies that you can support include:

Cisco Nexus 7700 2-Slot Chassis

The Nexus 7702 is a 2-slot, three-rack-unit (3RU) chassis that supports the Nexus 7700 10/40/100 GE F3-Series modules, supervisors, and power supplies. It provides comprehensive Layer 2 and Layer 3 features and operational consistency in small to medium-sized data center aggregation and campus core deployments. In addition, it supports:

  • Small to medium-sized DCI solutions: The comprehensive DCI feature set includes OTV, LISP, MPLS, and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), and the chassis is hardware ready for Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) and Ethernet VPN (EVPN) technologies.
  • High-performance RISE and ITD services: The compact chassis is ideal for the delivery of services.

Cisco Nexus 7000 F3-Series 10 Gigabit Ethernet Modules

Integrated with Cisco NX-OS Software, the F3 10 GE module delivers one of the industry’s broadest feature sets in a single module. It gives you the flexibility to deploy a wide range of network designs while protecting your investments.

For a full list of F3 10, 40, and 100 GE modules, please see the comparison table.

Programmability, SDN Support, and Simplified Operations

Broad, open-source tools and support for open standards significantly boost Cisco Nexus 7000 programmability and SDN capabilities for virtualized and cloud deployments. Programmability tools include:

  • OpenFlow
  • Chef and Puppet software agents
  • JSON
