Companies Embark on Multiple Joint Projects as Part of Ongoing Strategic Growth Plan

RIYADH, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - 20 October 2014 – The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and Cisco have announced that they have agreed to strategically collaborate on several high level projects to build joint solutions for the Saudi Arabian market. As part of the agreement, STC and Cisco plan to define opportunities for new solutions that will create increased customer benefits as we enter into the era of the Internet of Everything (IoE); create a joint go-to-market strategy to address the ICT market in Saudi Arabia and build 3 new data centers which will represent the largest Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) deployment in the Middle East to date.

Key technology market transitions including video, cloud, mobility and security, all fuelled by the Internet of Everything (IoE), will impact all areas of business operations globally including those in Saudi Arabia. As businesses evolve and the speed of change rapidly increases, communication and information will be crucial. Cisco’s goal is to work with strategic partners, like STC, to solve customers’ most important business challenges by delivering intelligent networks and technology/business architectures built on integrated products, services, and software platforms.

The agreement will represent a major milestone in both companies already long-standing relationship because as a leader in providing integrated communications services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, STC is continuously striving to keep abreast of technology developments in telecommunications to meet the needs of its customers, especially in light of a changing world in terms of the role of telecommunications and its uses.

Highlights/Key Facts:

  • Cisco defines IoE as bringing together people, process, data, and things to make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before—turning information into actions that create new capabilities, richer experiences, and unprecedented economic opportunity for businesses, individuals, and countries. Cisco will work closely will STC to define opportunities for developing innovative technology solutions for customers in key vertical sectors in the Kingdom including Energy, Oil & Gas and Smart and Connected City deployments.
  • Cisco and STC are also planning to accelerate and streamline cloud adoption in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To that end, STC is already deploying Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), the first data center to offer full visibility and integrated management of both physical and virtual networked IT resources, and built around the needs of applications. The two companies will build three data centers at the district level in both Riyadh and Dammam in response to growing market needs making this STC deployment the largest Cisco ACI deployment to date.
  • Earlier this year, Cisco announced plans to build the world’s largest global Intercloud – a network of clouds – architected for the Internet of Everything thereby aligning with our Cloud vision. Cisco expects to invest over $1 billion globally to build its expanded cloud business over the next two years. STC fully supports Cisco’s Intercloud vision and Cisco’s Hybrid Cloud strategy and plans to work with Cisco as part of its partner ecosystem to deliver this vision in Saudi Arabia.
  • As part of this agreement, STC and Cisco will also sign a joint Marketing and Sales Agreement to create a go-to-market strategy to address the ICT market in Saudi Arabia. This strategic alliance is a key catalyst to help accelerate STC’s transformation to becoming the leading information and communications technology (ICT) provider in the Kingdom. STC and Cisco plan to jointly invest, develop and market new innovative technology solutions focused on cloud services as well as establish a Center of Excellence and a training academy at STC.
