About Reorganizing Foreign Interfaces
The Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager collects information from both the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) and the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) to identify interfaces on a device. In most cases, the information provided by CDP and LLDP match and the Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager creates a foreign device with the appropriate interfaces. However, in some cases the information does not match. In these cases, the Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager attempts to resolve the discrepancy and assign the appropriate interfaces to the appropriate device.
However, in some cases the CDP/LLDP discrepancy is not easily addressed and the Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager has to make a best effort attempt to determine to which device an interface belongs. When this happens, the Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager can assign a foreign interface to the wrong device.
Terminology to keep in mind:
A foreign device is a network object such as a switch, a hypervisor or a host that is not managed by the Cisco Nexus Fabric Manager.
A foreign device interface (FDI) is an interface that exists on a foreign device.
Moving a Single Device Interface
Procedure
Step 1 Click the Navigation menu. Step 2 Click Home. Step 3 Click the Neighbors tab. Step 4 Click the interface's hyperlink in the appropriate device tile. The foreign device interfaces, identified by their FDI icons, appear. This is the type of interface that needs to be moved. Step 5 Click in the white space of the interface tile you want to move. The summary pane appears on the right.
Step 6 Click MOVE. Step 7 From the Move to drop-down list, choose the host to which the FDI is to be moved. Step 8 Click the MOVE button.
Moving Multiple Foreign Device Interfaces
ProcedureIf more than one interface on a foreign device shares the same device ID, they must be moved as a group. If an attempt is made to move a group of foreign interfaces that shares an ID, but one or more is missing, the move will not execute.
Note
You can verify the device ID by selecting the FDI tile for the interface and referring to the information in the Summary pane.
Step 5 Select multiple foreign device interfaces by checking the check box in the lower right-hand corner of the tile.
Note The check box is visible only when you mouse-over it.
Step 6 From the Settings drop-down list, choose Move selected device interfaces. Step 7 In the MOVE FOREIGN DEVICE INTERFACES dialog box, choose the foreign device to which you want the interfaces moved. Step 8 Click Move.
Deleting an Empty Foreign Device
ProcedureA foreign device with no remaining interfaces can be cleaned up by using the following procedure.
