Overview

Cisco DNA Center provides an extensible platform that Cisco customers and partners can use to create value-added applications that can be built on top of its native capabilities. You can leverage the following Cisco DNA Center platform features to enhance the overall network experience by optimizing end-to-end IT processes, reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and developing new value networks:

  • Intent APIs: The Intent APIs are Northbound REST APIs that expose specific capabilities of Cisco DNA Center platform. The Intent APIs provide policy-based abstraction of business intent, allowing you to focus on an outcome to achieve instead of struggling with the mechanisms that implement that outcome. The APIs conform to the REST API architectural style that are simple, extensible, secure to use and support the standard REST methods which includes the GET, POST, PUT and DELETE operations though HTTPS. For additional information, see Getting Started with the Cisco DNA Center Platform Intent API.

  • Integration Flows: Integration capabilities are part of Westbound Interfaces. To meet the need to scale and accelerate operations in modern data centers, IT operators require intelligent, end-to-end workflows built with open APIs. Cisco DNA Center platform provides mechanisms for integrating Cisco DNA Assurance workflows and data with third-party IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions. For additional information, see Integration APIs.

  • Multivendor Support: Cisco DNA Center allows customers to manage their non-Cisco devices. Multivendor support comes to Cisco DNA Center through the use of an SDK that can be used to create device packages for third-party devices. A device package enables Cisco DNA Center to communicate to third-party devices by mapping Cisco DNA Center features to their southbound protocols. For additional information, see Getting Started with Cisco DNA Center Multivendor SDK.

  • Events and Notifications Services: Supported services are available for Cisco DNA Assurance and Cisco DNA Center Automation (SWIM) events to be captured and forwarded onto third-party applications via a webhook URL. For additional information, see Getting Started with Webhooks on the Cisco DNA Center Platform.

ITSM Integration Updates for Cisco DNA Center

The following are the updates and changes for IT Service Management (ITSM) integration for this Cisco DNA Center release:

  • The Network Events for REST API Endpoint bundle has been deprecated. If you have configured this bundle for an earlier Cisco DNA Center platform release and are using it for scheduled events, be aware that it will not work with this release and that you need to reconfigure the individual REST API endpoints for specific network events.

    Note

Additionally, the Scheduler for this bundle will not show up in Integration Flows under the Developer Toolkit.

You reconfigure REST API endpoints for events using the new GUI. Click Platform > Developer Toolkit > Events. Review the listed events in this window and click a specific event (name) that you wish to configure. After clicking on an event name in this window, review the event details and then click Subscribe to create a REST API endpoint. For additional information about configuring REST API endpoints for an event, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

    Important

Event notifications now occur when the event actually occurs and not according to any scheduled time that you configure.

  • Event settings lose the preferences previously selected after you upgrade to this release. You will also need to reconfigure the preferences again. Click Platform > Manage > Configurations > Event Settings to access a GUI window and reconfigure the preferences.

  • The Device Image Outdated event setting preference (which is for a SWIM event), if selected previously will be lost when upgrading to this release. You will need to reconfigure this SWIM event again. Click Platform > Manage > Configurations > Event Settings to access the GUI window and reconfigure the preferences for this SWIM event.

  • For the SWIM Events for REST API Endpoint bundle, the configuration settings will be removed by default after upgrading to this release. You need to click the update for this bundle to get the latest configuration settings and for this to work. See Update the Bundles for information about updating the bundles.

  • If the Network Issue Monitor and Enrichment for ITSM (ServiceNow) bundle was running on Cisco DNA Center Platform release version 1.3, then perform the following steps for it to work after an upgrade:

    1. From the Cisco DNA Center home page, click Platform > Manage > Bundles.

    2. Locate the Network Issue Monitor and Enrichment for ITSM (ServiceNow) bundle and click the Update button.

    3. Next, click the Configure button.

    4. Click the Activate button to save your configuration and for this bundle to work after the upgrade.

  • Several network event APIs have moved from the Network Issue Monitor and Enrichment for ITSM (ServiceNow) bundle to the Cisco DNA Center REST API bundle. If you are using these network event APIs from a previous release, they will not work for this release and you need to recreate them for your purposes using the data and samples located within the Cisco DNA Center REST API bundle.

    Note

Additionally, the Scheduler for this bundle will not show up in Integration Flows under the Developer Toolkit.

The following APIs moved to the Cisco DNA Center REST API bundle:

    • Get Issue Enrichment Details

    • Get User Enrichment Details

    • Get Device Enrichment Details

    • Get Client Enrichment Details

Click Platform > Manage > Bundles > Cisco DNA Center REST API. In the Cisco DNA Center REST API window that opens, click the Contents tab > APIs, and then scroll down the list of APIs until you locate one of the preceding APIs. Proceed to use the data and samples to recreate the API.

You can also access the APIs by clicking Platform > Developer Toolkit > APIs > Know Your Network and the appropriate subdomain (Devices, Clients, Users, or Issues).

For additional information about these bundles, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

  • The number of Assurance events that are available for notification in the Cisco DNA Center platform is reduced for this release. You can view the available Assurance events by either clicking Platform > Manage > Configurations > Event Settings or Platform > Developer Toolkit > Events.

  • The Runtime Dashboard will show previous priorities (P1…P5) until 6 hours after the upgrade (minimum time filter).

ITSM Integration Enhancements

The Cisco DNA Center platform supports the following updated ITSM enhancements with this release:

  • Enhanced Exception Handling between the ServiceNow (ITSM) tools and Cisco DNA Center, including:

Inventory reports (CSV format) are not getting displayed correctly, if there are devices with multiple serial numbers.

CSCvs60269

There are a couple of formatting issues for Inventory reports (CSV format):

  • Uptime is being split into 2 columns.

  • Site Name Original is being internally filled, which should not be part of the report.

CSCvs55839

In Data and Reports, the Uptime field in Inventory reports is being split into multiple fields in some cases and not in other cases. This inconsistent behavior is because the internally invoked automation API returns a response for that field with a comma for some cases, and without a comma for other cases.

Limitations and Restrictions

The following sections describe the limitations and restrictions for this release.

IP Address Manager Integration

The following are the limitations and workarounds for IP Address Manager integration with Cisco DNA Center:

  • Infoblox:

    • Infoblox does not expose a name attribute; therefore, the comment field in Infoblox is populated by the IP pool name during a sync.

    • For a pool import, the first 50 characters of the comment field are used. If there are spaces in the comments, they are replaced by underscores.

    • If an IP pool name is updated for an imported pool, the comments are overwritten and the new name is reflected.

  • BlueCat: There are no limitations identified with BlueCat integration at this time.

Reports

Reports with significant data can sometimes fail to generate in the Cisco DNA Center platform. If this occurs, we recommend that you use filters to reduce the report size to prevent such failures.
