Release Notes for Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3.0.x

This document describes the features, limitations, and bugs for the Cisco DNA Center platform, Release 1.3.0.x.

Overview

Cisco DNA Center provides an extensible platform that Cisco customers and partners can use to create value-added applications that can be built on top of its native capabilities. You can leverage the following Cisco DNA Center platform features to enhance the overall network experience by optimizing end-to-end IT processes, reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and developing new value networks:

  • Intent APIs: The Intent APIs are Northbound REST APIs that expose specific capabilities of Cisco DNA Center platform. The Intent APIs provide policy-based abstraction of business intent, allowing you to focus on an outcome to achieve instead of struggling with the mechanisms that implement that outcome. The APIs conform to the REST API architectural style that are simple, extensible, secure to use and support the standard REST methods which includes the GET, POST, PUT and DELETE operations though HTTPS. For additional information, see Getting Started with the Cisco DNA Center Platform Intent API.

  • Integration Flows: Integration capabilities are part of Westbound Interfaces. To meet the need to scale and accelerate operations in modern data centers, IT operators require intelligent, end-to-end workflows built with open APIs. Cisco DNA Center platform provides mechanisms for integrating Cisco DNA Assurance workflows and data with third-party IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions. For additional information, see Integration APIs.

  • Multivendor Support: Cisco DNA Center allows customers to manage their non-Cisco devices. Multivendor support comes to Cisco DNA Center through the use of an SDK that can be used to create device packages for third-party devices. A device package enables Cisco DNA Center to communicate to third-party devices by mapping Cisco DNA Center features to their southbound protocols. For additional information, see Getting Started with Cisco DNA Center Multivendor SDK.

  • Events and Notifications Services: Supported services are available for Cisco DNA Assurance and Cisco DNA Center Automation (SWIM) events to be captured and forwarded onto third-party applications via a webhook URL. For additional information, see Getting Started with Webhooks on the Cisco DNA Center Platform.

What's New in the Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3.0.3

Cisco DNA Center platform, Release 1.3.0.3 resolves an issue where a Client Summary report is not created after upgrading to Release 1.3, if the report was scheduled before the release upgrade. For additional information, see Resolved Bug for Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3.0.3.

What's New in the Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3.

The following are the new features and functionalities for the Cisco DNA Center platform, Release 1.3.

Cisco DNA Center Integration

This release supports the enhanced integration of the Cisco DNA Center platform with Cisco DNA Center. As a result of this integration, separate Cisco DNA Center platform installation procedures are no longer required. When you perform a fresh install of Cisco DNA Center, Release 1.3, you are also installing Cisco DNA Center platform, Release 1.3.

Note

The upgrade procedure for Cisco DNA Center platform has not changed from previous releases. See Upgrade to Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3 for information about the upgrade procedure.

Reporting Enhancements

This release of the Cisco DNA Center platform supports the following reporting enhancements:

  • Reports are queued and executed on a first-in first out (FIFO) basis in the Cisco DNA Center platform.

  • Multiple changes in the Data and Reports GUI, including new Last Execution Status and Reports fields in My Downloads.

  • Support for maximum number of available reports in the Cisco DNA Center platform (7 reports).

  • Support for maintaining reports in the Cisco DNA Center platform before expiration (7 days).

  • Improved scale support for Data and Reports.

Note

For detailed information about the above reporting enhancements, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

Runtime Dashboard Enhancements

This release of the Cisco DNA Center platform supports the following Runtime Dashboard enhancements:

  • Source and destination data is now available in the Event Summary to indicate the direction of the flow of events.

  • You can now click on each event ID in the Event Summary section of the Runtime Dashboard to view history details for the event.

  • Cisco DNA Event Priority is added as an extra column to the Runtime Dashboard.

  • Meaningful priority and severity values are displayed in the Runtime Dashboard, rather than numbers.

Note

For detailed information about the above Runtime Dashboard enhancements, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

ITSM Integration Enhancements

This release of the Cisco DNA Center platform supports the following ITSM integration enhancements:

  • Enhancements made to the Run Now and Run Later scheduler feature in the integration flows to improve performance and reliability. You can use the enhanced scheduler feature (for example, Run Now) to test an integration flow before actually configuring a schedule. For example, in the SWIM Events for REST API Endpoint bundle, you can run the integration flow (Schedule to publish SWIM events - REST Endpoint connector) at the present time to test it prior to configuring a schedule to publish future SWIM events.

  • Enhanced error handling when checking connectivity for the bundles. When you click the Check connectivity link for a bundle, you will now receive a meaningful error message when encountering connectivity issues (for example, an error message noting a proxy or credential issue) . You can use the error messages to assist in resolving the problem.

New API Support

Wireless API Support

The Cisco DNA Center platform supports an updated Wireless API. This API supports the creation, retrieval, updating, and deletion of wireless profiles, as well as the provisioning and reprovisioning of a device. The Wireless API documentation is accessible using either the Cisco DNA Center platform GUI or via Cisco DevNet.

To access the updated API using the GUI, choose Platform > Developer Toolkit > APIs > Connectivity > Non-Fabric Wireless.

The following new methods are supported:

  • GET /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/profile

Method that gets all the wireless profiles.

  • GET /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/profile?profileName={{name}}

Method to get a wireless profile by its name.

    Note

For the GET methods, use ASCII HEX code if there is a special character in the path or query parameters.

  • POST /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/profile

Method to create a new wireless profile. You can also perform the following tasks with this method:

    • Associate existing enterprise SSIDs with the wireless profile.

    • Associate management interface with the non-fabric SSIDs.

    • Associate existing sites with the wireless profile.

    Note

Currently, only the management interface can be associated with the wireless profile. Support for all interfaces will be added in a future release.

  • POST /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/provision/

Method that provisions the device for the first time (assigns site to the device and managed AP locations)

    Note

For this API, the sites should already be created and sites in managed AP location should be associated with a network profile. Additionally, if the payload has multiple objects for reprovisioning multiple devices, but the API validations fail for one of the devices, the API flow will stop at that device itself and all subsequent devices will not be re-provisioned.

  • PUT /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/profile/

Method that updates the wireless profile by adding or deleting the SSID in the wireless profile or adding or removing sites from the wireless profile.

    Note

In the PUT call, the complete details which are needed in the profile have to be passed in the payload. For example, if the profile has 2 sites and 1 SSID and only 1 new site is to be added without deleting or updating any other information, the whole information is to be passed in the payload for all existing SSIDs as well as sites. If any existing information is not sent in the payload, then that will be deleted from the network profile.

  • PUT /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/provision/

Method that reprovisions the device. Update managed AP location and related configurations as per new network profile according to the new managed AP location. Provision updated configurations in the network profile for the managed AP location.

  • DELETE /<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/wireless/profile/${profileName}

Method that deletes the wireless profile by its name.

ENFV API Support

The Cisco DNA Center platform supports an updated Enterprise Network Functions Virtualization (ENFV) API. This API supports the creation, retrieval, updating, and deletion of sites. The ENFV API documentation is accessible using either the Cisco DNA Center platform GUI or via Cisco DevNet.

To access the updated API using the GUI, choose Platform > Developer Toolkit > APIs > Site Management > Site Profile.

The following new and updated methods are supported:

  • GET/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/site/count

Method that returns the count of the number of sites in Cisco DNA Center.

  • GET/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/membership

Method that returns all the children of a site including devices and child sites (area, floor, and building).

  • GET/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/site

Method that returns a site by specifying the parameter. If no parameter is given, then the API will return the available sites in Cisco DNA Center.

  • POST/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/site

Create site in Cisco DNA Center. This is a pre-existing ENFV API that has been enhanced in this release.

  • PUT/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/site/${siteId}

Method to update an area, building, or floor with a specified hierarchy and new values.

  • DELETE/<cluster-ip>/dna/intent/api/v1/site/${siteId}

Method that deletes a site from Cisco DNA Center using the site ID.

IP Address Manager Integration

The following are the limitations and workarounds for IP Address Manager integration with Cisco DNA Center:

  • Infoblox:

    • Infoblox does not expose a name attribute; therefore, the comment field in Infoblox will be populated by the IP pool name during a sync.

    • For a pool import, the first 50 characters of the comment field will be used. If there are spaces in the comments, they will be replaced by underscores.

    • If an IP pool name is updated for an imported pool, the comments are overwritten and the new name is reflected.

  • BlueCat: There are no limitations identified with BlueCat integration at this time.

Reports

Reports with significant data can sometimes fail to generate in the Cisco DNA Center platform. If this occurs, we recommend that you use filters to reduce the report size to prevent such failures.
