IPv6 Default Router List Configuration on Sx500 Series Stackable Switches

Objective

Default route helps to route the non-local traffic to the link local address. Only one static default router can be configured on a switch with the IPv6 interface. Static default route can be edited or deleted where as dynamic default routers are route advertisements sent to the switch IPv6 interface and they cannot be deleted manually. The objective of this document is to help configure the IPv6 default router list on Sx500 Series Stackable Switches. This article helps configure and view the default IPv6 router addresses. IPv6 addresses are used to identify a network interface of a computer.

Note: To statically assign a router to a Link Local interface requires you to configure a Link Local interface. For more information, refer to the article IPV6 Interface Configuration on Sx500 Series Stackable Switches.

IPv6 Global Configuration 

Add Default IPv6 router address

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility. If the SX500 device is in Layer 2 mode, choose Administration > Management Interface > IPv6 Default Router List. If the SX500 device is in Layer 3 mode, choose IP Configuration > Management and IP Interface > IPv6 Default Router List. The IPv6 Default Router List page opens:

• Default Router IPv6 Address — This parameter displays the link local IP address for the default router.

• Interface — This parameter displays the outgoing interface where the default router exists.

• Type — This parameter displays the type of default router configuration:

– Static — This indicates that the default router is added manually.

– Dynamic — This indicates that the the default router is added dynamically.

• State — Status of the Default router.

– Incomplete — This indicates that the resolution of the address is currently in process.

– Reachable — This indicates that a positive confirmation was received within the reachable time.

– Stale — This indicates that a neighboring network that was previously known is now unreachable. Nothing is done until traffic needs to be sent.

– Delay — This indicates that a neighboring network that was previously known is now unreachable. It remains in this state until the delay time passes, at which point it changes its state to Probe.

– Probe — This indicates that a neighboring network is not available, and that Unicast Neighbor Solicitation probes have been sent to verify the status.

Step 2. Click Add to add a static default router. The Add Default Router window appears.

Note: In the Link Local Interface field the link local interface is displayed. The interface can be a LAG, port, tunnel, or VLAN.

Step 3. In the Default Router IPv6 Address field enter the default IPv6 address of the router you wish to add to the table.

Step 4. Click Apply to save the configuration. 

Edit Default Router IPv6 address

Step 5.Choose the static IPv6 address from the IPv6 Default router table that need to be edited and click Edit.

Step 6. Make the necessary changes in the Default Router IPv6 Address Field and click Apply to save the changes.

Delete Default Router IPv6 address

Step 7. Choose the static IPv6 address from the IPv6 Default router table that need to be deleted and click Delete.
