Miercom Report: CleanAir Technology Competitive Testing

April 22 2010

Video: Self-Healing: Cisco CleanAir vs Aruba ARM

May 02, 2010 - 802.11 sources of interference can completely disrupt WLAN connectivity and cause undue network downtime. Cisco's CleanAir technology uses a dedicated spectrum analysis ASIC which allows the system to detect, classify and avoid interference within well under a minute. In sharp contrast, Aruba's ARM uses information from the AP's Wi-Fi chipset which is not designed to classify or avoid non-802.11 interference. As a result, Aruba's system can easily be jammed using a simple analog video camera that can be purchased for under $50.

Video: Aruba Control Channel Security Vulnerability

Aruba Networks uses an insecure, clear text control channel for Access Point to Controller communications. This allows packet capture and replay attacks which can cause disruptions in client connectivity and leak sensitive information regarding the Access Point's configuration. Aruba doesn't currently implement any portion of the CAPWAP standard and instead opts to use a mix of proprietary protocols including PAPI and GRE encapsulation. In all Aruba code versions before 5.0, the control channel for non-remote APs is sent in clear text leaving the system vulnerable to eavesdropping or packet injection/replay attacks. 2010-APR-28

Video: Motorola Adaptive AP Control Channel Security Vulnerability

Motorola uses an insecure, clear text control channel for Access Point to Controller communications. This allows packet capture and replay attacks which can cause disruptions in client connectivity and leak sensitive information regarding the Access Point's configuration. 2010-MAR-02
