Doing Business With Cisco

Technology Group

Cisco's Corporate Development Technology Group evaluates innovative new technologies for the correct fit and suitability in the Cisco portfolio.

The Corporate Development Technology Group (CDTG) identifies enhancements needed to maximize a technology's strategic value. For example, acquiring two or more companies may be necessary to enter a new market or create a new business that is holistic and competitive. Corporate Development brings companies and products together at the business as well as the technology levels.

CDTG works closely with aspects of corporate and Technology Group (TG) teams & BU teams to identify, partner, invest, acquire and integrate technology in the appropriate functions, reinforce the business case, and help ensure that the best choices are made and tailored to Cisco's business needs. This process helps create technology and market transitions that drive sustainable growth and industry leadership for Cisco.

The group includes experts in identifying, incubating, and capturing strategic value from disruptive technology trends. These experts facilitate the capture of new adjacent markets by identifying innovative technologies that link new products and existing Cisco business and partnerships. They work to deliver a thorough technology integration plan for new acquisitions to increase short-term business opportunity and long-term technology leadership.

CDTG works closely with the TG/BU teams, corporate functions (such as CTO, CFO, Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), Sales) and Corporate Development, Business Development & Strategy teams to develop longer-term intelligence & strategy. These efforts lead to more informed decision making with respect to build, invest/buy, partner strategies, and detect market transitions early enough to thoughtfully react.

CDTG also works to accelerate market adoption by creating new ecosystems, leading technical standards, and working closely with early adopter customers. The team maximizes the strategic and financial value of the investment portfolio by:

  1. Providing exposure for portfolio companies to Cisco’s partners and business units
  2. Developing bridging technologies and solutions to enable adoption of portfolio technologies by Cisco and partners
  3. Developing a comprehensive portfolio management and governance model.
