Speakers' Bios

Peter Papaioannou, Operations Director, Cable & Video Solutions, Asia Pacific

Peter Papaioannou

Peter Papaioannou is the Operations Director for Cable & Video Solutions for Asia Pacific (APAC), reporting to VP for SP Asia Pac, Hanh Tu. In this role Peter is also been responsible for leading the sales integration of the recently acquired Scientific Atlanta team.

Here, Peter is responsible for leading Cisco overall Cable and Video strategy across the Cable, Broadcast, Satellite and IPTV markets and driving the growth and increase relevance of Cisco in this strategic market which is clearly in transition.

Previous to this role he was the Director of Operations for the Service Provider market at Cisco Australia, in this role he was responsible for delivering value to Cisco's Service Provider customers by providing business relevant networking technology solutions, which help them grow their business in the era of Internet driven business.

Peter has more than 20 years experience as a sales leader in the Australian Information Technology and Service Provider equipment industry. Peter joined Cisco® in 1994, after working in for Digital Equipment for 9 years.

Robert C. McIntyre, Chief Technical Officer, Service Provider Group, Cisco

Robert C. McIntyre

Robert C. McIntyre currently serves as chief technical officer of Cisco's Service Provider Group.


Previously chief technical officer for Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco Company, McIntyre's newly extended role will enable him to leverage the synergies of Scientific Atlanta and Cisco intellectual capital and integrated end-to-end technology portfolio to improve the overall service velocity of the 'quad play' for service providers and the industry.


McIntyre began his career at Scientific Atlanta in 1991 and has held significant leadership roles in the company's Transmission and Subscriber businesses. While leading the Subscriber business, his team designed the first real-time digital TV systems and held the first digital TV field trials over Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC). Bob was named Chief Technical Officer in 1999.


Prior to joining Scientific Atlanta, McIntyre was vice president and general manager of Augat'’s Interconnection Products Group and served as president and CEO of Avex, Inc., an electronic manufacturing company in Huntsville, Alabama. Earlier in his career, he was the vice president and general manager of GTE Communication Systems in both their Telephone Switching and Transmission businesses. McIntyre also spent 11 years at General Electric, working in a variety of technical management positions. He also participated in General Electric's General Management Development Program.


McIntyre holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy and Materials from Carnegie Mellon University. He has done graduate work at Penn State in Engineering Mechanics, and at Gannon University in Business Administration Training programs. McIntyre became a member of the Network Advisory Council of Accenture in 2006.

Prem Behl, Chairman, Exhibition India Ltd

Prem Behl

A veteran businessman with 43 years of experience, Mr. Prem Behl was employed with Indian and international corporations for 20 years before launching Exhibitions India group in 1987. He is a director of the Exhibitions India Group, which is a pioneer in the organizing of exhibitions and conferences in India.


Mr. Behl maintains professional memberships with a large number of trade associations and business councils. Owing to his global affiliations, Exhibitions India Group has been appointed as Consultant to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; State of Ohio (USA); and the City of Stuttgart (Germany).


Mr. Behl is a member of the Asian Exhibitions Council (AEC) of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE); and the General Secretary of the Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA).


Mr. Behl is also a member of the Advisory Board of Protostar Limited, USA and an Independent Director of B.A.G Films & Media Limited and Intex Technologies (India) Ltd., India.

Kenneth L. Klaer, Vice President and General Manager, International Business Subscriber Network Systems, Cisco

Kenneth L. Klaer

Ken Klaer began his career at Scientific Atlanta in 1979 as a co-op student while attending the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, he serves the company as vice president and general manager, International Business, with responsibilities for the company's Service Provider Video Technology Group and Cable TV Set top Terminal business unit with responsibility for Cisco’s STB business outside the U.S. and Canada. He has played a key role in the success of the company's mission-critical rollout of its premier digital cable subscriber products throughout the United States and now the rest of the world.

After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1981 with a bachelor of industrial engineering, Klaer progressed through a series of service and product management roles in both the Subscriber and Transmission business units at the company. His responsibilities placed him in positions that dealt with video, data, and fiber optic products. In 1990 he assumed the role of director of International Operations for the Broadband Communications Group.

In 1992 Klaer was selected to lead the Customer Services activities at Telecorp Systems Inc. and in 1993 joined the ANTEC Corporation in Illinois. There he was vice president of Business Development and later vice president and general manager of the company’s Broadband Systems. In 1996 he was named President of the Power and Passives Division at ANTEC. He returned to Scientific Atlanta in 1997.

Raghu Puri, Managing Director, APAC, Transmission Networks Sector, Scientific-Atlanta (Shanghai) Company Ltd. (A Cisco Company)

Raghu Puri

Raghu Puri is Managing Director, APAC responsible for the Transmission Networks Business for Scientific-Atlanta, A CISCO Company across APAC. The Transmission Networks Business represents products for Transmission of Video across Satellite and Terrestrial Networks in support of Content Providers (Programmers/Broadcasters/Aggregators), Cable Operators and Telco's. Within APAC the Transmission Networks business has a presence in Region Focused Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing/Operations and Global R&D. In addition, his responsibility includes managing Scientific-Atlanta (Shanghai) Company Ltd., a Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE) of Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. The Scientific-Atlanta (Shanghai) Company subsidiary, originally operated since 1993 as a joint vesture company, focuses its business initiatives on developing and manufacturing digital technology products for the burgeoning China market and extending that technology for applications all across Asia and Emerging Markets.

Prior to his current assignment, Puri was responsible for strategy development and execution for Scientific-Atlanta's Transmission Networks business. As Director of Business Strategy, he was responsible for identification of new business opportunities including IPTV, developing strategy and managing its execution with emphasis on International Markets. Since joining Scientific-Atlanta in 1994, Puri has held various management roles in Business Development, Sales, Product Management and Marketing.

Puri has over 20 years experience in broadband communications. Prior to joining Scientific-Atlanta, he was with Sprint from 1988 to 1993. Among his various roles, he was responsible for marketing products to mid-level enterprise accounts and re-engineering Sprint's field sales and customer service operations.

He received his Bachelor's in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, and has a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Missouri.

S.V. Vasudevan, Director, Cable Video Architectures, Service Provider Systems Unit (SPSU), Cisco

S.V. Vasudevan

S.V. Vasudevan (Vasu) is Director of Cable Video Architectures at Cisco Systems, and runs an architecture and solutions group responsible for video networking solutions for worldwide cable service providers.

Vasu's mission is to leverage networking and video technologies from across Cisco's business units to create an integrated solution platform for the worldwide cable market that provides unprecedented levels of service flexibility, scalability and personalisation. He has authored several published technical papers and has been an invited speaker at many industry conferences.

Vasu was formerly Chief Architect at BigBand Networks where his responsibilities were to apply BigBand's platforms to develop compelling and innovative video networking solutions. Vasu was a principal developer of Switched Digital Video, evangelizing the technology in its early days and managing the development team that implemented the first field deployments. Switched Digital Video is now being deployed across the board by most major North American MSOs. Vasu also held senior technical positions at DiviCom (now Harmonic, Inc.), and data networking pioneers Xircom and 3Com.

Vasu is an electrical engineering graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

Jim Kiker, Director, International Product Strategy and Management, Service Provider Video Technology Group, Cisco

Jim Kiker

Jim Kiker is Director, International Product Strategy and Management for Subscriber Networks at Cisco, Service Provider Video Technology Group. In this role, Jim is responsible for managing and charting the future course of Cisco's Cable set-top product lines for all markets outside of North America. He has over 19 years of experience and has worked in a variety of positions in consumer products domain.

Jim started his career at Cisco - SPVTG (erstwhile Scientific Atlanta) in 1994 working on analog network control systems and set-tops for North America. Jim was involved in the transition from analog to digital set-tops and was part of Scientific Atlanta's development team for cable's first HDTV and DVR set-tops. He has been working in the International group since 2004 developing broadcast, interactive, and DVR solutions for numerous customers and is now focused on bringing those same solutions to the emerging markets.

Prior to coming to Scientific-Atlanta, Jim worked at OKI telecom as a product manager for five years developing handheld cellular telephones for the North American market.

Jim has an M.B.A. in International Business from Georgia State University and a BBA in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
