Vellore Institute of Technology Becomes 1st Academy in South Asia to offer Cisco Certified Network Professional curriculum
State-of-the-art computer lab inaugurated
Vellore, India, July 20, 2007 - Cisco® the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) today announced the introduction of Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) curriculum at the Institute. VIT is the first academy in the South Asia region to offer this highly specialized curriculum. The institute currently offers Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) curriculum to students.
A state of the art computer lab was inaugurated today at VIT by Ms Sandy Walsh, Regional Manager- Education Programs and Corporate Responsibility, Cisco-Asia Pacific in presence of Hon. Pro-Chancellors, Mr. G V Selvam and Mr. Sekar Vishwanathan. The lab will help students pursue the CCNA and CCNP courses. The academy facility is being extended to the M.Tech -IT students to enhance their knowledge on networking devices. The new lab meets the requirement of conducting CCNA, CCNP, and Security and Wireless courses.
The Cisco NetAcad program began offering CCNA curriculum to IT engineering students at Vellore Institute of Technology in 2002. More than 500 students have so far benefited from the NetAcad curriculum at the institute.
The Networking Academy program focuses on teaching students how to design, build and maintain computer networks. The program prepares students for the 21st-century workplace while serving as a valuable model for online learning. Worldwide, there are 12,000 Networking Academy institutions and more than 2 million students in over 160 countries. In India there are 160 Networking Academy institutions in 26 states and union territories, enrolling more than 7,400 students. Since the inception of the program in India in 2001, 4,000 students have graduated from these schools. Out of these, 51 academies are located in Tamil Nadu alone.
