COACH was formed in 1975 by several health professionals and vendors in the medical industry, who recognized that significant sharing of ideas and efforts must take place in order to enable Canadian health institutions to effectively use information technology and systems. The focus has since expanded to include not only the technology and the systems, but also the effective use of health information for decision-making. The association vision is Taking Health Informatics Mainstream.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.
This is the only HIMSS Chapter in Canada and governed by the HIMSS standards, having a volunteer board that works for members. Their goal is to provide education and networking opportunities to our membership.
ITAC Health, Canada's only Health ICT Vendor Association, provides its members with access to leaders of industry, information and collaboration.
Representing more than 120 Canadian ICT companies that are actively involved in the health sector, ITAC Health promotes the role its members can play in establishing the Canadian healthcare industry as a global leader. ITAC Health serves its members as a collective voice to healthcare professionals, government representatives, researchers, and healthcare consumers, and as a conduit for those stake-holders to leverage the members' ability to facilitate the Canadian healthcare system as a "model of excellence" for healthcare systems around the world. Through collaboration, ITAC Health and its members work with healthcare stakeholders to improve the health of Canadians and the efficiency of the Canadian healthcare system through the implementation of information and communications technologies.
Association of member hospitals dedicated to improving the delivery of hospital health care.
Founded in 1924, the OHA uses advocacy, education and partnerships to build a strong, innovative and sustainable health care system for all Ontarians. Over the years, the OHA has influenced and helped shape health care policy in Ontario — from helping the government establish the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in the 1950s to harnessing the efficiencies of group buying power by creating Ontario’s Hospital Purchasing Program in the 1970s. Today, representing approximately 155 public hospitals, the OHA assumes a leadership role, focused on patients, promoting an efficient and effective health system.
