Problem Description
BXM Firmware releases MFJ, MFK, MFL, MFM and MFN do not support Level 0 statistics or greater than 16,000 connections on legacy Broadband Switching Modules (BXM) cards. The affected cards are listed above in the Products Affected section.
Note:?Enhanced BXM cards are not affected by this limitation.
Background
The amount of memory required to store firmware MFJ and later has increased over the amount of memory needed to store previous firmware versions. The result is that the BXM no longer will have enough memory to store greater than 16,000 connections and the associated connection statistics. In order to store greater than 16,000 connections, the user must configure the BXM for Stats Level 0.

As the number of statistics per channel is increased, the memory available to user connections is reduced.
The statistics level is set on each BXM card through the use of the SuperUser command cnfcdparm slot# . Changing the statistics level on the BXM will cause the BXM to reset and interrupt traffic. Changing the BXM statistics level may result in loss of user connections or statistics.
BXM Firmware MFP allows support for Level 0 statistics on the legacy BXMs, but the trade-off is support for VSI when Level 0 statistics are enabled.
Problem Symptoms
Connection counts greater than 16,000 are no longer supported.
Workaround/Solution
There are two solutions are available. One is to upgrade to BXM firmware MFP or later release.
Note:?MFP and later firmware release have the following caveat: Support for VSI is not available if Level 0 statistics are enabled.
The second solution is to replace older BXMs with Enhanced BXMs. Follow the procedure outlined in the BPX 8600 Documentation.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
The user should be able to distinguish legacy BXMs from Enhanced BXMs in order to determine whether to load MFJ or later firmware. The procedure to determine the BXM type is found on Cisco.com under How to Tell BXM-E Cards from BXM Cards.
