Product Bulletin, No. 985
Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System Device Management
End of Sale AnnouncementIntroduction
This product bulletin covers the issues associated with the end of sale of Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (Cisco Secure IDS), formerly known as NetRanger, Device Management as a separate option. Device Management will now be bundled with the base Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (Cisco Secure IDS) Sensor at no additional charge. The last order date for the non-Device Management Sensors is October 17, 1999 (see Table 1). Existing Cisco Secure IDS 2.2.X customers will be able to upgrade to Device Management at no charge. Upgrade instructions will be posted on CCO. Customers running versions of Cisco Secure IDS prior to 2.2.0 (e.g., 2.1.1) will have to upgrade to 2.2 either via a maintenance contract or by purchasing the upgrade (product number NRS-BASIC-U) in order to get Device Management.Table 1 End of Sale Details
Rationale
Device Management is being bundled for free with the base product in order to provide customers enhanced security capabilities and to promote interoperability with other Cisco products. In addition, this change will eliminate the confusion and complexity of the ordering and manufacturing of the Cisco Secure IDS Sensors.Discontinued and Replacement Product Part Numbers

Note:
SAS and SAU for DM will remain orderable for RENEWALS ONLY as we will continue to support legacy WheelGroup customers that originally purchased DM with the software-only Cisco Secure IDS application or with legacy WheelGroup appliances. Cisco Sensor appliance customers should purchase SMARTnet support, which includes both SAU and hardware support.
